1958 Topps: round three. also MAJOR BLOG NEWS!

Our winner last night was: Jeremy

Folks it has been a year in the running, but tonight is the last night of the "almost daily giveaway". One year ago I started this thing to celebrate my ninth blog anniversary and coast it right up to my 10th anniversary which is tomorrow (I will be at the Jacksonville card show).  It was a multi-purpose giveaway in reality. My uncle Fred who passed last September would be celebrating his 100th birthday today that is a real big one rather it would have been.  I miss him.

The giveaway was also to celebrate a few milestones other than hitting #10. As you can see I had a birthday not long after my anniversary (got one coming soon again). I also knew that I would surpass my 2,500th blog post (now over 2,700), nearly a half a million views, and over 11K comments. For some bloggers that's just a months work but it took me ten years. I am proud of the numbers but I promise I won't get upset at all if they continue to rise at a faster pace.

Along the way several new followers came aboard, happy about that too. When running the commenters names (or abbreviations) in Random.org nearly everyday I noticed a few quirky things, but my mind works that way all of the time. For instance, the order in which people commented could leave you a quip or two as follows:  Bo Derek or Bo NO.

That added a little fun on the days it worked out that way. I randomized three times each day and seeing how it randomly picked could also be interesting. I seen the same name in the #1 spot all 3 takes too. A few times anyways. What was happening a lot though was the top name after 2 spins would also wind up the top name on #3. A lot.

All in all there counting tonight was 266 giveaway days resulting in apx 2,394 cards given away. My goal was to put a hurting on that 5K count box of super stars that sat next to my laptop while up in Georgia. yeah, that didn't happen it is still full and I can still see that very box that I was wanting to avoid lugging back to Florida. Oh well.

I hope that those of you who commented and won cards got some cards that you needed or wanted along the way. (pretty sure that everyone won at some point). That was also fascinating to see back to back wins and even a third back to back back.

I do still have a bunch of cards that I plan to send out to all of those who commented over this past year. That may take me a bit to put that altogether. Mainly because I have old new plans for this blog.

At some point the Masonic Mondays will cease and I will be bringing back some of my old theme posts like

Monday Mini Collections (I have a slew of those). Signing, Bubble Gum, Birthdays, and several others.

Tuesday Trade Day: This go around will be a different spin on what I was doing 10 years ago. This time I am starting it out with baseball cards either autos relics or both. I have finally put all of my autos & relic cards into binders they took up 4 binders for the non Braves (well there are a bunch of dupes Braves in those binders). I also have left out my PC guys unless they were dupes too. There are plenty of them. The first one of those posts will be a super duper long one because those are not sorted by teams like the rest will be. Then I will go each week alphabetically posting those autos/relics and they are all available for trade. WHAT IS UNIQUE HERE IS, where usually one would trade relic for relic or auto for auto and that is fair. What I will be wanting in return is a Braves card that I need and to be basically equivalent if fairness.

In case you didn't know I have always collected auto cards and relic cards no matter who they were. Well, this way I can thin those out (hard to do with me always adding to my collection) and add some NEEDED Braves to my collection. It would be nice if they were autos or relics but I really just want a fair trade on any Brave card that I need.

Wacky Wednesday: Over the last ten years I have ran two separate kinds of Wacky Wednesdays. 1 being baseball cards that for some reason or another I find interesting, and the other being Wacky Packages. The originals, pre-originals, the re-runs, the ANS, and even the underground ones. I will be resuming both of those in that order. I will do the baseball cards first until I run out of them and have to start stockpiling them again. While doing that I will fall back onto the Wacky Packages. I have finally got those into binders too. I am still working on re0organizing the baseball Wackys as I have decided to break them into different categories, so it will be a while before we start this, but I am working on it. Takes time you know, lol.

Franken-Friday: I have been talking about those darned sets for nearly ten years. For those not aware my 1st Franken-set was all Braves by card numbers. Then I built another Franken-Set with Jersey numbers not Braves specific, I can't seem to find one of those binders now. But I plan on tearing the remaining two binders apart anyways. But I had been stock piling and talking about three others (actually there are 4 other Franken-Sets).  Ten years in the making and I am finally working on getting those put into binders. I will announce now what they are. The first one is" #1", all cards with card #1, could be an insert or checklist or base card whatever card #1. The next one is "Easy as 1 2 3" All cards numbered 123. The third one is called "Trips" these are cards numbered 111, 222, 333, etc. The fourth was Uniforms but I am pretty sure I am going to break that one apart too, just not 100%.

Lastly, I will be bringing back what I used to call Saturday Shadow Shots, I just won't be doing the "Shadow Shots" on Saturday this go around.

None of these will be taking place in the immediate near future, as I am just now working on them, but rest assured before year's end some of these will be hitting the blog.

Okay let's get to the next portion of that 1958 Topps set.

Mazeroski doesn't have to sit alone as being the only big name. Snider (and Alston) join him.

Noe we can add Ted Williams and Kluw!

Alright I will finish the set up (the All Stars are in the back of the set). on Tuesday.

Have a great weekend! I have enjoyed the last 10 years writing (mainly scanning and posting cards) this blog. I hope I make another 10.

  1. Fantastic blog and content variety. Congratulations on your accomplishments. I am very thankful to be a recipient of your prizes from time to time. It added some very nice cards to my collection that I would have never gotten any other way. I look forward to seeing what you have in store on this great blog for the next ten (or however many) years you so choose. I'm glad I got this comment in now as I'm going with my 85-year-old Dad to the local dirt track to see some racing action on the 1/4-mile oval. Have a great weekend!

  2. I did not know what your Daily Contest posts was about but kept seeing daily winners so it got me curious about the contest and your blog in general - it's always fun to see what you have picked up even when it gets to be too much eye candy.

  5. Hopefully you will continue to get decent comments now that the giveways are ending (you know how that goes). Congrats on the blogoversary.

Now, about that box of stars. If you really want to pair it down, send those Mookies and Kersh's up north to you know where.

    1. I am smiling. Actually the comments and views were lower during this contest run than prior. Another crazy thing that I can't explain.

  6. Very impressive that you were able to keep it up for a year. It'd be interesting to see stats like wins and winning percentage for everybody, but who has time to put in the work for that, lol. I think I won a couple times early but haven't had much to chime in with lately.

  7. Congrats on all your milestones, and thank you for all the great giveaways (even though I only won one)

That Ryne Duren card is one of my favorites in '58. Keep on chipping away at this set, and keep posting!

  8. Thank you so much for your giveaways. On a personal note, it's kinda been the catalyst to get me commenting on your blog and others in general rather than just passively lurking.

Also not sure it's a great idea to post unaltered drivers licenses, ripe for identify theft right there. Yes even for those that have passed away!

  12. Congrats on the anniversary, and happy birthday! And thanks again for all of your generosity! I got my last contest envelope today, appropriately enough.

Like Tom's 444 collection, I'd be glad to try to hit the 123, 111, 222, etc. If you have a wantlist or havelist for those I'd like to think I could add quite a few for you.

  16. Thanks for the few wins I took home. It was fun. But I am really looking forward to your new old ideas. It drives me to actually want to start over. Sounds weird but I can add new segments in and start them from ground zero. Hmm.

Congrats on 10 years and blog anniversary!
