The worst deal: part two

I certainly had help deciding that it would only be a rare event for me to attend the card show in Jacksonville going forward. This purchase helped for sure, but I had been feeling like the deals from the last dozen years had run it's course. My "actual" local card show held in The Villages was last weekend and I went. Like usual I didn't stay long, nor did I buy a lot. Which is normal barring the vintage partial sets that I've picked up over the years. Those are always 50's and I really don't need to buy those binders anymore. I need 60's. I did talk to that seller about it and he says he really doesn't buy any 60's to [ut the books together. I hope he'll think about that before their next show over there (4x a year). Anyways, pretty much done in Jax. Here is the other half of what I started last night.

That Dominion Double play Ripken is the regular insert.

It is the PLUS variation, and it doesn't hurt with Jeter as the player on the flip side either.

Let's see who is paying attention to my words and not just looking at the pretty pictures. You see that autographed Gary Carter? I got two of them. The other one I am giving away here tonight. Post a comment on this post (I will close the entries Sunday night at midnight). Monday is actually my birthday so I will randomize the qualified entries two times to pick a winner.

Even found a few vintage tucked in the box.

\

This 2012 Trout mini was also a nice get.

Folks that is a wrap, have a great weekend. I think I'm heading to Clearwater for a card show. As for declaring this was the worst deal of the day it is because I paid $120.00 for the box, and end result barring a handful, the rest of these I could have easily found in the dime boxes in Ormond and paid $20.00-25.00 for the box. In my eyes I ate a hundred bucks.

I'll be hitting that Sport Lots haul that came in last month next week as well as the Tampa show and Hudson show.

Jax card show (August): The worst deal of the day!

Right up front, definitely was the worst deal of the day. That is not to say that I didn't get some goodies out of the deal. But, penny for penny worst deal of the day.

1) The forward if you will: I bought a monster box of super stars, inserts, parallels, etc.

2) I am breaking this up into two posts.

3) the end result was apx a nickel per card. They were all sleeved and top loaded which I still have to "donate" those to Ormond. I will probably take them over for trade night on the 21st.

Let's get going.

A bunch of Braves autographs. Some I already had the card, most in fact. I do have a running list of Braves autographs and one day I'll post about it. No, not dig out each of those autographed cards scan them and then post. More of the numbers and names with a scan here and there. But that is another day.

These and the rest are basically PC guys, and was also my first 2024 Topps chrome gets. I've since grabbed more from other shows and places.

Okay, this is a good stop for tonight. I'll finish up the box tomorrow, probably going to be an early afternoon post instead of late night.

Be safe, be happy!

NEVER FORGET!

I remember. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing, and then what I did afterwards. That was a very bad day....a scary day and for days and weeks after. Fast forward twenty three years and we find our great nation in an even more vulnerable position. At any time, any place, and from within our own country. Those crazed radicals are already here. I pray God protects us. Never Forget!

Jacksonville August card show: Dime cards from Daryl

In years past I made sure I worked Daryl for a good deal every month. Since I moved back home I hadn't been doing that, in fact I haven't attended a lot of shows up there this year at all. The big deals haven't been found too many times (excluding the deal from The Card Farm) that was worthy of 5 posts last week. Daryl has moved away from quarter boxes to .50 boxes although the cards are really the same and I feel strongly they should be in dime boxes. Hence not been spending a lot with him this year. Knowing that I'm not really planning on attending the Jax shows with any frequency if at all going forward I figured on contributing to his table. I made it work out to dime cards. I bought 200 cards.

These pretty girl cards were probably the highlight other than some Braves I pulled.

I was pleased with these finds.

Only needs a few of these Braves, but I am always giddy to get Braves I don't have.

Be happy!

The AUDACITY of it all! Content provided by Gregory Gay: aka NOC, Night Owl Cards.

I am for the most part a pretty easy going guy. Yes, definitely set in my ways and have an absolute set of values. As much as I'd like to say it is "where I grew up", it is certainly because of who and how I was raised. One such matter is WORK. I was taught that it didn't matter whether you were a ditch digger or a Dr. Made a buck an hour or a hundred....you work the same. Work as hard as you can and with pride in it no matter what. That philosophy has more than paid me back 10x in my life. Then again, I am just naturally good at everything I do, LOL. Yeah part of what makes me me is my sense of humor. What can I say....I love me. Back to the rant (sort of- this is a 2 parter as you will see). WORK, some people have no sense of pride, they could care less about their work and in my opinion the very air they breathe should be sucked right out them. I find them disgusting and a waste of my oxygen. The earth would be better without them in it. Yes, I know that is harsh, very very harsh, but it is exactly how I feel about it. Okay, this is where my sense of humor kicks in. I recently got a bubble mailer from Greg. Here is what the package looked like.

That is rough looking. Almost looks like the mail truck drove over it. Obviously someone wasn't caring too much about their work and just stepped all over it.

It is obvious that they didn't care because they didn't pick up rather than walk all over it. Apparently they wanted too, and decided hey let's flip it over and stomp on it a few times.

Looking over the package I waited a day to open worrying what the cards might look like. Now, I was hoping to be lucky as I have been my whole life (actually I say blessed, not lucky).

Good news, the cards were okay.... all 18 of them. (tip to The Owl) two envelopes (or 1) and two stamps would have been fine and saved you a few bucks.

Now let's get straight to the "content". Greg had the audacity to send me cards, send me 17 Braves cards, and for some reason thought that it would be appropriate to include a Vintage 1970 Topps in Ex-NM high number set build need. Can you believe the nerve of that guy?

The Golden Idols Tom Glavine is already in my Braves team set, however there are 2 pluses to mention about it. 1) In Greg's defense my webpage said I needed it. 2) Glavine is a HOF PC guy so I needed it there anyways.  The Optic flipped over is so you can see it is numbered to /75 (blue prizm). Teh Hank Aaron mini is the AG back. So the first 9 are 9 for 9.

A Bazooka back Braves card, yippee! A Braves Chrome Black and a gold parallel numbered to /50. A Hammer need, an autograph newbie. Now we have another Hank Aaron, this time Greg missed the mark. I already had this, but not sure I may have recently picked it up, so it is forgivable. A rainbow foil Money Mike, and my first Braves EGG card. And that beautiful high numbered 1970 Topps card. How dare you send me such things, and then to include this note:

Dude, in this day and age you can do the math (even if you need a calculator) You got 94.4444444444%. Geez, get it right man. 1+1 does not equal 5. Sorry. That is not how this works.

See, I told y'all I had a sense of humor (sarcasm is the highest level of comedy).

Greg you did amazing I give it 17/18 super hits. Again, I probably didn't have that Aaron when you mailed the package). I don't really grade on the curve (I disagree with that whole idea). But is still give you 100%. Thanks for the package.

Have a great night folks.

Last from the Farm

Made it through the week! This brings us to the end of the cards from The Card Farm. These are set build needs, or rather suspected needs. Let's get right to it so that you can go and enjoy your weekend.

High end stuff for .07, I like it. I like it a lot. Okay that last Senga is an insert so it went into the future PC guys.

Chronicles.

Bowman Sterling another high end build.

Topps Inception.

Finest Flashback, oh yeah. Loving these pulls.

More high end with the Triple Threads.

Same goes for the Museum Collection.

Beautiful Topps Tribute cards.

Closing out the best deal of the entire day with some shiny Bowman's best.

I still have several posts left from last month's Jax card show.  One from Daryl, and two from Jason which just so happens to be the worst deal of the day.

Have a great weekend folks. I am heading to the "local" card show tomorrow in The Villages. This show is only 4x a year and is heavily vintage. So if I do any damage it may affect how the card spending budget goes for the rest of the month, and maybe into next month as well.
