Jackie Robinson Day has come and gone.

And there is a new record. Jafronius for 4 in a row.

I was one of those bloggers who failed to put a post out on Saturday. I could have, but I was toying around in my garage (setting up my liquor cabinet and the shot glasses) and other things. I even had my pool table cleared and cleaned off. Could have actually played pool, but alas it now covered totally again, with stuff that will need to find a place to be displayed somehow. The beverage section of "man cave" is in place albeit crammed together and over time will need to be better displayed. None of which should have prevented me from slapping my annual JRD post out even with it being a Saturday. I don't usually post on weekends anymore haven't for roughly three years now. The point is I could have paid my respects and for that I apologize for just being lazy. I also skipped the April Fools Day post this month (it was a Saturday too) but most of those "special birthday posts" are going bye bye anyways.

I have a whole bunch of baseball players sporting #42 on their Jerseys that are not scanned, but they will be soon. The "odd ball" section of my collection is what will be dumped unto my pool table next as soon as I find a place for the stuff I just put on it.

Here is what has been sitting in the JRD scan folder for years now.

More modern stuff.

I know that JRD is based on the day he started for the Dodgers back in 47'. I don't think of Jackie Robinson on 4/15 each year. I think of TAX day. Most of the younger readers may not know this but it wasn't until more recent years that there was ANY exception to filing your your taxes by TAX day 4/15.  That is what April 15th is to me. Period. I say give Jackie Opening Day honors!

  1. Opening day sounds like a good idea. That's quite a hodgepodge of 42 cards.

  2. As I said on my post, April 15 is my dad's birthday first, followed by Jackie Robinson Day (and now, followed by the date I completed the 1956 Topps set). Tax day is way down there. Probably because my taxes are usually finished by February.

  3. Agree with that!

Also you should host your loyal readers in your cave. Sounds like a cool place to hang out.

  4. Perhaps after our vacation in June I’ll see if I can carve out a day to stop by again and see how the garage is progressing.
Is that ‘91 Bowman Goose a regular and Tiffany version?

    1. Being that there are two of Goose 91' Bowman's there one does look a bit brighter than the other so maybe one of this is, otherwise I don't why I would have included a duplicate card or player in the pre-mlb JRD salute card sets.

  5. Tic Tac Toe. 3 '57's in a row. Nice vintage.

  6. I would have played some pool to celebrate the table being cleaned off before covering it again.

It's too bad not all of the JRD insert cards show the #42....those Bryant, Posey, etc shots could have been from any other game.

  7. And those Masonic Monday posts come up on a Saturday for me. I don't actually see a post on Monday.

  8. Tax day is the first thing that comes to mind when I hear April 15th too. But I'm glad MLB celebrates Jackie Robinson Day on 4/15 too. Heck my niece's birthday is also on this special day. The more special events, the merrier.

P.S. Had no idea Gossage wore #42.

    1. Just check baseball-reference and the only number he wore in a big league game is 54. Must have been a different # for spring training. Looks like Eric Nolte wore that # in the regular season.

Only Yankee to wear #42 for significant time before Rivera was Jerry Coleman.
