The winner last night was BO.... again. lol.
Last week I received 2 PWE's from fellow OCTers. (OLDCARDTRADERS), a group of vintage traders that I belong to. Now, most but not all collect modern stuff too along with other sports and non sports cards. These two were not expected, either a blind trade (which I do a lot of) or payback for something I sent in recent months.
The 2nd PWE contained food issues. Braves at that. For the team set I needed the Capra, Evans, and Matthews. I also needed the Roach Post. I'll have to check the set builds for those other Hostess to see if I needed them there.
The same day I received those two envelopes I also received a bubble mailer from Dime Box. I will show that off in two separate posts. Thanks guys appreciate the cards!
Have a great weekend!
Funny, I didn't realize that Darrell Evans had played for anyone other than the Tigers. I just looked it up, he spent 16 of his 21 year MLB career in the National League, lol.
ReplyDeleteClearly I paid attention mostly to the American League
I've got 3 of those cards (the Orioles '59, and the two 76 Hostess).
ReplyDelete9 years with Atl. and 8 with SF (they split 76'. Evans was a long time ATL fan favorite.
ReplyDeleteLove the old Hostess. And I barely remember Darrell Evans playing for the Tigers!
ReplyDeleteFun Fact: FOYTACK is right after FREEHAN when I play the Sporcle Tigers Trivia Game for most games played since 1950.
ReplyDeleteGood Job! 👍
Evans was already a Tiger when I started following baseball. Led the AL in HR so seemed like he was a big star.
ReplyDeleteThe more I see Hostess cards the more I enjoy them. They seemed to have better photo selection than the base Topps cards. Maybe I should do another "vs." series.
That last card is the only good time to have a roach on your cereal box.
Thanks for the card win!
And got my latest winnings today. Thank you!
DeleteLove the’59 Tiger!
ReplyDeleteThanks again for letting me come over and lighten your doubles boxes.
I believe that a few Post cards and Jello cards were tossed into the garbage by people that were not sports fans. Only if I got my hands on them from people in my family. I have had a few over the years but could have had many more. Oh well! Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI mainly remember Darrell for his years with the Giants... and on a lesser note the Tigers. His years with the Braves were a little before my time. However thanks to baseball cards, I associate him with them as well. I also thought he looked like the German agent in the first Indiana Jones movie.
ReplyDeleteMan the number of Hostess cards taken a Candlestick (3 our of 5 here). I could get in trouble browsing a box of those.
ReplyDeleteEvans made my recent list of Greatest Non-HOFers with that slugging power. I didn't realize he ever led the league in HRs though.
ReplyDeleteThe one blogger I knew who was collecting the '59 set ditched us for YouTube so if I see any 1959 singles in the future I'll keep you in mind.
The background on that Mathews card is different.
