Masonic Monday: Charles Lindbergh and of course the contest

Friday night produced a new winner: Chris (make sure I have your address).

There you go, another week of history. President's Day is coming on the 20th, and I have so many Presidents to cover, especially our 1st who had 4 covers. They are a little (okay a lot) different than what we have been seeing on this theme so I have combined the 4  into two posts. The first will be next Monday as a prelim to the following Monday.

  2. Interesting history. Not much on masonry though, for a masonic publication.

  3. Another great story. I wasn't aware that the Lindberghs had fled to Europe to escape the spotlight

  5. Roosevelt Field on Long Island was one of many important airfields. Not named after a President but Teddy's son Quentin who died in WWI. After WWII a lot of the airfields on Long Island shut down, and Roosevelt Field became one of the biggest malls in America. In the 1990s it was the largest community on Long Island at Christmastime, I don't know if that's still the case. When I was a kid there was a fairly big exhibit with a model of the Spirit of St. Louis. I think that's all gone now.

I recently read about a surviving Curtiss smokestack not far from Roosevelt Field that still is in operation and has the Curtiss name. I'll have to take a wallet card photo next time I'm in the area.

They really glossed over the bad stuff later in his life, but I didn't realize he flew, and extensively, in WWII.

  7. I don't have the time to read this article... with about ten other blog posts I need to read. But I am interested in Lindbergh, so I'll have to come back here to read it another time.

P.S. That photo of him on the cover is awesome!

  8. The house he grew up in is in Little Falls, Minnesota. I have been there for a tour. It's only 45 miles away from where I live. Interesting place to visit.
