The winner last night was: TDK
Now, here is where I need everyone to chime in. Most certainly those of you who are autograph getters. You see I bought those cards at the November show and I couldn't remember what I paid for them. Do you remember that post? I separated these cards from that "lot" because.... well you can see for yourselves and let me know. I am sure some maybe real (I hope all of them) but eheheheheheheh.
Now have it (go to work), some really big names on these cards. I did my best researching, and just threw my hands in the air. It cost way too much to have JSA do their thing. I know this because I wanted an Eddie Mathews 8x10 signed photo certified, and they wanted $85.00 for that one alone.
Everyone put in your two cents on those you believe might be real and if we have a general consensus on any I may have JSA check them out.
Nice batch of cards.. Based on some of the ones I've seen I'm fairly sure the Jeter and the Williams are real.. Same with Gossage..
ReplyDeleteI hope they are real. I assume you googled each one to see what their autograph looks like. Sometimes it's hard to tell. I looked up Koufax and it seems like he does the K different every time. I'll be curious what the experts say.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, they look pretty good to me. But I am not much of an expert in this area. The consistency between cards of the same player is pretty good (except Arod, but you wouldn't expect perfection either). The only one I can speak to directly is the Gossage. I have a non-authenticated auto of him that I got from someone I trust. He said he got it in person. It looks extremely similar to the Gossage you have. Same angle and everything.
ReplyDeleteIn general, I tend to think lots like this are probably real. But I may be too trusting too.
Having eye issues, everything is kinda blurred, so, can't really see the cards today.
ReplyDeleteGood Job! 👍
I think something about the Griffey’s, the Seaver, and the Koufax looks off. Perhaps the Rivera, Piazza, and Williams, as well. I can post them on the SportsCollectors.net boards and get some opinions.
ReplyDeleteIt kind of seems weird that the same dying blue sharpie may have been used on the Rizzo, Jeter, Griffey, and perhaps Ichiro cards. Those looks close to the real thing and they put in some effort, but I think they are just really good forgeries on most.
Yeah, Goose is cooked, but as for the others, I wouldn't put much faith in them.
ReplyDeleteDoes that Rodriguez have a signature on top of a signature?
ReplyDeleteThe one is a silver sig parallel, so sort of yeah.
DeleteThe Koufax looks real and so does the Jeter, but I don't study autographs. Way too dicey aspect of our hobby.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to TDK for being chosen. Thank you, Johnny's Trading Spot for the Twins cards I got today. I had a bunch of Auto cards, real, fake or otherwise. I sold them as a lot on a selling site and didn't get very much for them. It's kind of a crapshoot for those of us without a trained eye. Might be snowed in by tomorrow morning here in Central Minnesota. The snowblower is ready if needed.
ReplyDeleteI would take one look at this lot, think that it's too good to be true, and then keep walking.
ReplyDeleteA rule of thumb I follow is it's a red flag to get all those autographs of superstars and legends and icons on cards worth five cents.
ReplyDeleteI am almost tempted to say the Gossage is good, but he's like a $10 auto anyway.
I can almost see where the Cody Bellingers look OK, but on principle not a group of cards I say where the autographs looks anywhere close to the real deal.
If that all came from the same seller I would be suspicious...all those stars in a lot. But I'm not an autograph analyst either.
ReplyDeleteOof, tricky one. The Jeter doesn't look terrible, but then I look at the card right below it...Griffey...same set, same streaky marker. I highly doubt these two were gotten right in a row like that. That leads me to believe someone did that in the same sitting.
ReplyDeleteHank Aaron looks a little too clean on a newer card, as his signature got much shakier with age.
Whoa. Some of those definitely look good. I echo the concerns about the same dying blue sharpie being a red flag though.
ReplyDeleteThe Dustin Pedroia looks legit, at least compared to the auto I have: https://diamond-jesters.blogspot.com/2021/02/good-luck-pedey.html
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love autographs... I don't know enough to say whether or not they're real. I have a bunch of TTM autographs (probably 150 to 250) I've acquired over the years from purchases and care packages, but they're kept in their very own binder or are on display on my shelves. I don't mix them up with my pack pulled autographs... even though card companies have proven that even those aren't guaranteed to be authentic either.
ReplyDeletemy eyesight is going the opposite way from the 20/20 I used to be, hence the interactive request. I don't really want to waste money checking them out through JSA.
