Are you ready? Baseball players and free baseball cards inside.

It has been a while since I threw the "contest" rules out there. Here we go:

1) Follow the blog.

2) Comment each day (M-F) before midnight EST.

That's it, pretty simple and easy. Now for those who joined in the fun after I announced the almost daily giveaway. I hit a few milestones on the blog a few months back and although I often held contests/games over the years that were limited to US addresses, I did a big giveaway much like Night Owl did except, I wanted to keep it down to a manageable daily routine. So I said I would lift the US restrictions and do basically 9 cards (not always 9) each week day post for 1 year. We are now on the 82nd giveaway from this card dump if you will. Almost a third of the way. The difference is I am pulling the cards mainly from a 5K box that has been sitting next to my laptop for the last 6 years.  Nothing but stars in the box (dupes of course). No reason for these decent cards to be hidden away doing nothing for me. So that's why I am doing these almost daily giveaways. Because I bought a lot of cards the last few months I sent a lot out from there too and thus I'm not making a dent in that box. UGH! Anyways, That's dealio.

With ALL of that said Friday night's winner was: Benjamin, see I told you.

Now for th emoment you all have been waiting all weekend for....... drum roll....

another drum roll..... Remember the title says baseball players, it didn't say they would be cards.

Bo often posts these 1930's Diamond Match books. They (baseball) were produced from 1934-36, and was loaded with Cubs.

As you can see, there were parallels, hehe. Different colored borders on many but not all.

I might as well throw this out there too. TCDB does not count the colored borders as separate match books unless there is another reason for listing the variation, yes I said variation. Many players had photo variations. So, way back nearly a hundred years ago, they were dealing with variations and parallels (just not at the um BS we deal with today).

I hope you enjoyed looking at these as there is still one more post of them for tomorrow. If you didn't see your team yet, check out tomorrow's post.

  1. Awesome stuff, I never see that kind of stuff where I buy cards.

  2. Wow. It doesn’t feel like it’s been 82 contests already. Thanks for having them. I’m glad it has got rid of some of those cards from the box and it has helped my collection.
While TCDB is a great resource tool, I kind of wish they would list only baseball cards and a different site or section would list the non-card items such as matchbook covers, coins, product wrappers, collectible cups, etc.

  3. Some find matchbooks there! Sadly they only produced them for a few team. Wish they had done Yankees - imagine coming across a Ruth or Gehrig! Chuck Klein is a big star, some others include Ott and Hubbell of the Giants, Traynor and the Waners on the Pirates, Dizzy Dean . . .

  4. I just figured out where to store the Brooklyn Dodgers you sent me. Now to TCDB ...

  5. Interesting.. I think the oddest collectible I heard of is packets of sugar put out for the Montreal Expos in the 70s.

  6. The stuff you fins constantly amazes me. That's Chuck Klein as a Cubs player, not as a Cardinals player.

    Good Job! 👍

    1. most of the matches if not all of them have been removed. I wouldn't try to strike them though. They are nearly 90 years old

  8. How do 90 year old matches compare to 50 year old bubble gum from 1970 Topps card packs?

    1. I don't know, but I do know this.....My uncle had apparently put a case of Trident gum packs in mason jars twenty + years ago, and I tried a piece the other day, and go figure it was fresh.

  9. Of all your amazing card show finds on here over the years, these are by far my favorite. Very jealous! If all goes well, I will be visiting Florida sometime next year for the first time, and am gonna try to arrange it so that I can go to one of these shows on my way home. Hopefully the crazy good deals will still be around by then.

  10. Lots of matches from a Chicago team, hmm, don't think it'll end well. Just blame it on a cow!

  11. I've never seen these matchbooks. They are really cool! I like the Bill Hallahan. The little league field I played on growing up was named after him...although in his bio in the matchbook it says "Binghampton" instead of "Binghamton" (common mistake...but I assure you, it's not part of the Hamptons).

  12. Oh man I didn't understand these at all until I got a few in-hand. They're kind of the coolest thing and are often super affordable too. Plus they look great in 6-pcket sheets.
