Mini Monday

Tonight I have a slew of different "mini collections". Like all of the cards that I set aside other than Braves and John Elway football cards, I do not seek them out.  Here are SOME of the minis, which I recently started to pull out of my boxes. Originally I was trading them all away, but some now are going to be staying here at home and the doubles will be traded. Not pictured tonight are baseball players born on 9/16 (yes I've sent a lot of Hershiser away recently too! Ouch! Also born on 1/30, and 2/25. Also NOT pictured tonight will be the Shadow Shots, Grips, #42, Eye Black, and a few others.

So let's to it:

Up first is my "Playn Dirty"

Yes, I loaded it (the above) up with Braves tonight, but just for tonight. For this collection, the player featured preferred have some dirt or stain on his uniform. Its not often you see a pitcher with the dirt that Bielecki is sporting. Of course the dirtier the better, and as the year passes we will see some doozies.

Next is my "Turning Two"

I've traded tons of these away too. thought I wold start it out tonight with the STARS above.

Next we the "Broken Bats"

Looks like Cecil has a drum stick in his hand.

I showed this White card in a post not long ago. If you zoom in, the bat is broken.

I think he swung to hard.

Next we have the "Causing a Stir"

Nice dust storm Tony!

Ah, believe it or not I just realized those are both Treadway cards. He is the stir on top, and kind of looks like Ryno below. Either way, both nice Stirs.

Above, "Bat Barrels", self explanatory.
Below, "ThrowBacks"

Gotta love that dinky hat on Pasqua.

"Pitchers on the Pads". I also keep the pitchers at the plate, or posing with a bat or or other oddballish shot all together.

Gooden looks like he wants to swipe 3rd. Kevin belly flopped into 3rd, and Glavine is looking to either round 3rd or slide.

"Bunts"

This next one is grouped with several (like the pitchers), but these I call "Give me some Luv"

"Fist BumpS"

Fist PUMP"

The "First Pump" is one of my favorite minis!

Below we have the "Tip of the Hat", which some of the cards in this collection aren't tipping a hat, maybe a glove a simple wave to the Fans to acknowledge their cheers. Now, we will see that Martinez card again tonight, but the backside.

"Bubble Gum" Another favorite of mine.

"High Five"

"Superman"

I have rules for these, must be completely in the air and pictured both hands and feet to look like they are flying.

"Dip can"

"Media"

I probably should have rotated this card 90 degrees, huh.

Cards featuring a NON Braves player, but a Brave is in the picture like the Glavine below.

This one is a "DOUBLE triple play card" too. (Pitchers on the Pads) and (Turning Two) (Eye Black, will explain this one another time). Technically the player with the eye black has a dirty uniform too, so......Oh yeah it ain't much, but there's a bit of a stir going on too. LOL. Who says 1992 Donruss sucks. OOOOOH, and its the DARK GREY lettering variation I discovered last month. That is an awesome mini card!!!

And the last mini of the night. Can you figure this one out? (besides the smudge on the right leg) Any card (sport doesn't matter as long as it is pro) featured player last name "MILLER" same as mine.

I hope enjoyed my warped mind once again.

Sunday Shoutouts

Only one trade package came in these last few days, and that was yesterday! By no means was it a disappointment. It was an awesome box full of Braves from Pat (Hot Corner Cards). It should more than suffice for this post. Before I start with the scans. Want to "shout out" to those trades that are in the works, and to formally congratulate the Comment Contest Winners, 1st Place Chris (Nachos Grande), 2nd Place Ethan, and 3rd place Nick (Dime Boxes).  Trade done cards in the mail with Kyle (Nolans Dugout), Trades started with Chris, Tom, plus waiting on a few team sets pick ups from Ebay.

Here are some (only showing apx. 10%) of what Pat sent back to me for a box of Tigers. I loaded him up, and I still have another flat rate box sitting here with his name on it with more Tigers and Lions this time. After that we should be onto the Vintage Tigers I plan on getting to him too. But here goes.

Pat sent along these Heritage cards too:

Pat sent 13 Heritage from the above set, but I figured 9 would give ya the picture.

How about some inserts and oddballs?

That is my first Hill's card. What you want more inserts, okay..

Some mini goodness. Those 1988 Topps (below) are also firsts for me)

How about some refractor, xfractor rainbow stuff?

A couple of nice throwbacks above. I grew up with the Braves wearing those uniforms on Uggla

Pat I want to give a big SHOUT OUT to you, THANKS!

Shadow Shots

Hi all, welcome to the very first "Shadow Shots" segment. I want to start out by explaining the collection itself. I do NOT actively seek the cards, but set them aside when opening packages from trades, purchases, etc.... The idea is to have as many different players as I can without seeking them out. I allow 3 spots for each player plus an extra slot called "other".   First requirement, the player having a shadow whether large or small, dark or light, speck or spot, just a shadow preferably of themselves. The slots are "position" which simply means they are shown playing their positions, 2nd slot is for "batting" (or on deck) with the bat usually visible whether in hand or not, the third slot is "bases", the player running the bases (not taking off from home plate). The 4th slot is there due to the fact that a lot of cards are "posed" and just don't fit the 3 mentioned slots.

Predominantly Pitchers have the most Shadow shots for obvious reasons, and such usually have the best shadow shots. I treat them a little different than the position players, as I allow them 4 shots from the mound, but gladly replace those when a card falls into the other categories, but first they must be a double if they are bunting, batting, running bases as that is another "mini' ALL BY ITSELF. One shared by other bloggers as well.  I've seen some super sweet shadows, perfect silhouettes from other bloggers, and those would definitely fit in here, but I look at the oddness of the shadow, the shape, can I see something else? It doesn't happen a lot and I won't be showing all of my shadow shots to you. I will pick some out each Saturday, typically in alphabetical order As, Bs, Cs, Ds, get it. But to start off I will show 3 that I like a lot.

I see a Tele-Tubby their with Nomo,  Maddux: a Pokemon, and Scanlan a Dragon head

Well, let's get rolling with A's:

Nothing special with Aardsma other than this is the actual first card in the collection.

Just a weird shape on the above Agosto, but look below: A turn arrow like the ones on the road

That came from the Agosto card below.

Nothing happening with the Alomar shadow, but just a great card!

Look a half of a star, or at least I believe that's what it would like if it went over the mound. My warped mind.

 Can you the Superman "S"

Below we have 2 Ankiel's One pitching, and one playing the outfield.

I know the shadow's aren't much on either card, but they are there, LOL. Notice both jersey numbers.

I see a peace sign, do you? Take a closer look

Let's try a few of B's

I see a hand extended out for a handshake. I flipped it below.

there isn't anything special about the Blauser you see below, other than its a BRAVE! But, let's look at the backside of the card.

Ah, a broken bat, makes the card interesting enough for this collection and yes broken bats are another mini, again just needs to be a double to make it here with the shadow of course. Who doesn't have extras of 1993 Upper Deck.

That's enough for tonight, I promise there are plenty of interesting shadows (or other factors) that will pop up as we go through. One thing that I will say is that the 1989 Upper Deck has absolutely the most Shadow cards, with 1989 Score a close second.

And the WINNER is.....

Well, a 3 way tie with 39 points each between Nick, Ethan, and Chris (dimeboxes, petethan, nachos grande).

So to break the tie the first (of the 3 mentioned above) to comment by claiming the trio on this post takes 1st choice, then the 2nd takes next choice, and the 3rd gets whatever is left. Thanks for the comments guys
