A couple of weeks ago I headed south to hit up the Friday night (3pm-9pm) card show in Clearwater, FL. I made two deals one being with that young no longer a newbie dealer who has a come a long way from where he used to be and still trying to "scale up" his words. The other was from a former Major League Pitcher. I'll start off with those or some of those.
He writes left handed. You can tell by the autograph on the Topps RC, but I also watched him sign another one for a fan who was actually visiting the area and was from Canada. That fan didn't know the dealer was Jesse, but certainly knew all about his MLB debut as this card highlights. I had shown him my card, and he just went on and on, so I told him the dealer was him. I offered him my card, Jesse said I'll sign one for him....Needless, that Jays fan went home very happy.
Very cool! Did you ask him any questions about his baseball cards?
ReplyDeleteHe's there every month, and at other shows too. We talked about him completing his rainbows this past time. I spent close to two hours at his tables. We talked about the other MLB stuff he does and did, his coaching, cards in general, the fact that every time he's on the golf course he runs into Fred McGriff, he also talked to Freddie Freeman that very Friday before the show.
DeleteNice!
DeleteNice connection for you. I wonder how many people at the shows know of his background. Nice of Jesse to sign a card for the Jays fan.
ReplyDeleteDon't remember Mr. Litsch... but that's really cool that he collects cards and sets up at shows. I bat right-handed... but sign and throw with my left.
ReplyDeleteAlways fun to hear about a player or former player that collects cards!
ReplyDeleteTechnically I am only aware that he built his rookie Bowman rainbows. Not sure he collects anything else.
DeleteOh cool. Litsch came to town a couple years ago when he was managing Williamsport in the Draft League. He signed a couple for me there too. I don't see a lot of former pitchers managing in the minors.
ReplyDeleteHe apparently dabbles in a little of everything. This year (only) he head coached Sanford in the Florida collegiate summer league. He also used to do some pro scouting and he did something for the Braves a few years back.
