Franken Friday: Last but not Least!

Okay another week has flown by, then again I know exactly what I did all week. That was a lot of work and to think I still have plenty to do.

Let us get to the cards from the "Last but not Least" binder.

Twenty two of the cards shown tonight (72) are checklists front and back. There are a couple that still have a checklist on the back of the card. So at least 34% of week 3 are checklists.

Have a great weekend and may your Holidays be blessed!

More on what I said

Okay, well maybe on a couple of things I've mentioned as of late.

1) The 90's insert thing. Seems like there is enough interest or at least curiosity for me to put together a series like I had planned but forgot. It won't be in the immediate future though. I will work on it a little bit at a time building several posts worth to last a while.

2) The 100,000 card pick up. Several things here. Turns out when there are apx. 2500 cards in protectors/top loaders not as many cards. Looks to be somewhere between 75-80,000 cards. Thirty two monsters boxes. That was a pick up for me to have fun with (whatever that may mean). The protected cards were definitely for my collection. There were 41 cards from Kyle's $5.00, two from the $10.00 box with the rest hand picked out of his dollar boxes. If you consider the entire lot as individual cards then I paid a penny each. With that said, the 2500 cards for my collection made up half of the total expense. In reality the 75K+ cards were almost 2 for a penny.... almost.

The dime-box cards as the are commonly called were a mix of pretty much all sports, like that lot I bought for that dealer before, just double the boxes for the same money I paid for those. It took me 4 and 1/2 days to sort them into their sport while pulling cards that I wanted as well as for other people. For me I was pulling set needs, PC guys, Braves, and mini collections. I also sorted the baseball by set....sort of. There is apx 5K of series 1, 5k of series 2, and 3k of 2023 Topps Update. Another 3K in Topps Chrome and several hundred Chrome Update. The cards are basically from 2020-2023 maybe 95% of them. This goes for all sports.

Tonight I will provide you an appetizer from the dime cards (probably should call them penny cards huh)? Just a teaser because there is a lot of work just to scan up some of those to last for many posts. Just the baseball at that. No I won't be scanning them all maybe a few hundred to scatter around from time to time.

Now for anyone interested in Hockey, Soccer, Basketball, Racing, Football, UFC, and Tennis by all means let me know. I really have no use for them so trading them away for peanuts (I have to cover shipping). Would be more shipping friendly for me to do a medium flat rate box (1800-2400 cards) at apx. $18.00 shipping. That would be ideal to get $20.00 worth of Braves needs (even a single $20 card), or $20.00 worth of set build needs. I only need 200,000 Braves and probably more in set needs. Better yet how $20 cash (not paypal) for a blaster consisting of 2K cards give or take.

Now why did I buy that mess and bust my butt sorting them (4 1/2 days)? I'll tell you (sort of). When I got to Kyle's shop last Thursday the dime box table was a mess. Cards out of boxes scattered all over the place. I had been through them a couple of times already, but they just fill in the gaps with new stuff so you have to poke through them every time. I immediately said UGH, and started "cleaning" the area up. While, putting cards back into the boxes one card caught my eye. I looked at it for a moment and said eh and put into a box. I spent over 6 hours in the shop hand picking those dollar cards and ALL DAY LONG customers, workers, and Kyle was talking about a specific card. In my head I am thinking the card that caught my eye might be it. It would be a thousand dollar base card if it is. Well, I finished up going/sorting the boxes Tuesday while Jeremy was here pulling set build needs. I did NOT find the card and I know damn well I seen what I seen and put it in the box. So I have gotten about half way through flipping through them again. I prioritized what I have gone through as that would be the quickest way to find the card I overlooked. Still NADA, Pretty sure it ain't in the racing, soccer, ufc, and tennis boxes. But it doesn't mean it wasn't stuck as I quickly ran through the cards on the original sort. So I knocked out the baseball and keepers stuff, now I have to go through the football and basketball cards again. I know the cards is these boxes somewhere. If and when I find it, I will certainly post it and let you all know about the card even if it isn't the thousand dollar card I suspect it is.

Ready for dime-box I mean penny finds?

This card caught my eye while sorting. I knew the base color of the Authentix set was silver. I was like oh cool it is a gold parallel just not of a guy I collect.

When I turned the card over and seen it was numbered to 5 I was blown away. I have already mailed it out to someone.... call it a Christmas present.

Then there was this oddly minor league insert cards I assume from Heritage minors from recent past (not the current year).

Those definitely get your attention, at least it got mine. The backs are great as well.

Okay that was just the appetizer for what is to come once I get some more of them scanned. A week from today I'll post on some of the $5.00 box cards (half) and 1 of the $10.00 cards. I will say that I only paid $2.00 each for those. A smidgeon less actually ($80.00 for all 43 cards).

1990's inserts.

I found this scan sitting in the files, and my best guess is that I was going to dig up a bunch of them (90's inserts) and make a theme (run of posts).

Pretty sure I picked this up in Ormond awhile back. Forgot about the idea until now. I did just grab a slew more of the nicer 90's inserts from there, but I haven't scanned them yet. I'll get to them soon though. Maybe tomorrow, maybe.

TRADE NIGHT: NY Mets

 Mets are up to bat.

The Matsui has been pulled.

No idea how that Yankee got in there (it isn't even a relic).

I guess stating that the Mets were up to bat was misleading as there was only 1 bat card and I already pulled it out. Another short one next with Nationals.

Double Bubble anyone?

I feel the title is an appropriate one as this is part two of the Bubble Gum Franken-set. I would like to make mention of something that I should have stated with the previous bubble gum post. When I started collecting them about 10 years ago, I gathered up whatever sport was showing the gum. I have whittled them down to just BASEBALL cards. Although when I redid the binder for this series I found three that didn't belong. I have (as of the scanning of the binder) 252 baseball bubble gum cards. I do have a little stack building that I'll need to check against my list in the New Year. I also just today got a PWE from the Bob of "The Best Bubble" blog. BTW he has over 1200 counting all the sports (I was never close to that before I dispersed the non baseball..... maybe 400 tops). Bob had my list so I can bet I got some new to me ones (now they might be in that stack I'm building).

Let's get get the next 44 cards out.

Alrighty then. Time to pick the winner of the night. With that said round 1 obviously has to go to Bevacqua. Even though several others were in the running.... sort of. Who will win round 2?

I'd also like to address the giveaway winners from last week. I said there would be three randomized winners. There were only 4 commenters one of which I had already decided to send some of those style cards to. So Mark you have some mixed in the stacks I'm building for you. That leaves Jeremy who will be here tomorrow to gets his and I'll mail out Sharp and RJ cards to them.

Next Monday is Christmas and I have my annual tidbit to do. Likewise the following week Monday January 1st will also have an annual post to get done leaving three weeks for Bubble Gum #3.

FRANKEN FRIDAY: part 2

You may remember last week I told y'all that I broke this binder up after I listed and scanned everything. We are now on the 2 round so here we go.

All of those blasted checklists. No regrets here for tearing this franken-set apart. I will keep the "We're #1" binder, but I am going to go back through that one and pull out all of those checklists in it.

Not sure when I will get to that little task. I kind of did a boo boo of sorts yesterday. I bought 100, 000 cards. I'll do a better explanation in the weeks ahead.

In case you forgot, these cards are the last numbered card of a set or sub-set.

Alright then, now it's time to go have a great weekend. It is going to storm here so I can work on those near 3 dozen monster boxes.

2012 Topps Museum Collection: completed.

As mentioned last week the 2012 and 2023 Museum sets are the only completed sets from this run so far. I have a needs list on my Set Builds under the Topps category for the rest.

2012 is the first year of Museum and Topps did pretty good with the set design. It looks nice and a little classy.

There is a good mix of veterans, rookies, and retirees.

Mike Trout is the key card. Beckett books the card at $60.00 on the lo side and $150.00 on the high side. Truth be told you can grab several at ComC for $30.00 and a few more for $40.00.

Last card honors go to Miggy. I put a scan of the a card back in case anyone wanted to know or see what the backs were like.

Do you remember Upper Deck, Skybox, or Metal Universe? PLUS a giveaway. FREE CARDS!

I completely forgot about these cards I pulled out of the dime boxes at Ormond last time. (Remember that $20.00 3K count monster box?)

Here I was thinking Upper Deck was DONE with baseball cards, let alone Skybox and Metal Universe. Do you remember those guys/sets? How about this set: 2022 UDC Skybox Metal Universe Champions set. It is a multi sport product. I pulled these baseball out plus I also grabbed the female athletes for a buddy in California.

I got all of the baseball players except for Ken Griffey Jr and Jackson Holliday. Most of the guys actually have 2 cards in the base set including Jr, and Jackson. I didn't get the "other" cards. I did however pull lots of dupes.

Here is the give away, you know free baseball cards, call it prospecting I guess. Still it could also just be a trip down memory lane with the 97/98 style Metal Universe looking cards.

Rules for the freebies: 1) be a follower of this blog and comment on this post before midnight December 16th. I will randomize the qualifiers a few times and the top three spots will get 6 cards each from the last two scans (seen above).
