MASONIC MONDAY: INDEPENDENCE DAY right around the corner.

The winner Friday night was: Jeremy. Seeing that he just cleaned out my Rays stash guess I'll whip him out Tigers.

Hoping my Gators take the Win tonight and the College World Series.

Tonight we are posting regarding our upcoming Independence day celebration.  Getting this out now rather than wait until next Monday the day before the 4th. I will also be attending the Braves & Rays game on the 7th with my brother Jack to cap off the week.

Let us get to the program.

I pray everyone has a safe and pleasant Independence Day! If you drink, hand over them keys before you start.

The upcoming Mondays have a few more in the patriotic realm and then we start back or should I say finish up the baseball players. I have five more of them left that I was waiting for the All-Star break as I am accustomed too in July, like early July. This year the game is on the 11th in Seattle, WA. Tickets start at just $331.00 what a deal, frig that. The television will be just fine for me. Go National League! Although with teams playing everybody every year now, not sure that the AS game is important anymore at least not necessary. I do not like the Inter-league play beyond maybe one or two 2 game series per team. Draw of the hat year to year.  I digress have a Happy 4th!

Good stuff from Ormond and good news about Florida!

Our winner this past evening was: Bo.

I have to give a shout out (rooting for) my Florida Gators as they battle LSU (another SEC team- SEC RULES) for the Baseball College World Series this weekend.

The SEC has been a dominant force during my adulthood, and not just football. No matter who wins this year it will be the 9th out of the last 13 CWS winners were SEC teams.  Covid cancellation and Oregon State messed up a 5 year stretch (making it 5 of 6 Oregon's win in 2018, and nothing in 2020.

Needless to say I want my Gators to win. It would be amazing that both of my Alma Maters CF (just won the junior college championship), and UF to take the CWS. I have UF football jerseys, I am thinking I may have to take a trip north to Gainesville and get me a baseball jersey from the school possible visit that card shop there too. If they win, I will do that.

Plenty still to get to from the dollar boxes that actually cost me 3 for a buck or .333 each.

I am going to go ahead and put this out there. For the last decade plus I have done my fair share of bitching about Bowman and all of their hard to figure what is what. But these last two years or so, they kind of got it simplified. Now until this year 2023, I didn't much care for the set design. I dig this years Bowman, I really do. I even like the parallels, but they are not that common. I have completed the base set 1-100 already and that is typically all I build. Not this year, I like so much that I am building the prospects and the chrome prospects. Nearly done with paper prospects, maybe half done with the chrome. Now, If I get off of my keester and dig through my future/potential pc boxes I might find pretty much the rest that I need. Thus far... this set is my favorite of the year. I don't believe Stadium Club will knock it out.

Okay moving on.

Those Pure Power cards are amazing in hand. Crazy for being so simple, but I love them. I have several now, and went on ComC and Sport Lots to grab some more. I picked up another Frank Thomas for .85, only because it was .85 and most of the others were around $4-5.00 a pop not just his cards all of them. I did not get any others. I think I will call it a night, week, etc.... There are nine more scans from my gets in the Ormond dollar boxes this time, and another nine scans of the FREE STUFF Kyle gave me. I'll give you a hint 2023 pruduct released not long ago. Like 800 cards free to me (those are already scanned). I will post those on Tuesday. I also went back to the shop the following, but I have yet to scan those gets.

The regular stuff

The winner last night was: The Diamond King

Now, with that "junk" purchase out of the way from Ormond I can highlight some of the normal stuff I get from the shop. I know that the collection was cruel to call it junk, but seriously there was about 25K 90's cards that I um.....misplaced lol.

My normal stuff at Kyle's shop is one of two areas, sometimes both areas. the dime boxes and dollar boxes. I picked up quite a bit out of the dollar boxes, but don't worry I didn't scan them all just some highlights. (If that isn't enough I went back last Thursday too).

Here we go the last scan did NOT come from the dollar boxes!

Okay dollar boxes does not mean I paid a dollar. No, The most I pay for cards in these type boxes is 3 for a buck, and I prefer to pay a quarter each.

Autos and relics even if I haven't heard of most those guys.....MINE!

I grabbed several that I didn't need, I have to stop doing that.

What.....? 2 Braves autos that I need for .33.... I win again.

A lot of colorful parallels this trip.

Stadium Club Chrome of the super stars, oh yeah.

Make that X-Fractors, absolutely heck yes. Another win!

Those Auro cards looks twice as good in hand.

I do believe I scanned these twice by mistake. At least the Braves anyhow. Too late now. I think I will stop here and finish up Friday. Nope...well yes I did, these cards were not in the dollar box, duh I said so to start the post with. The cards here were in Kyle's  $5 & $10 dollar boxes. I paid $20.00 for these.

More from the Ormond junk buy......

The winner last night was: San Jose Fuji

Now let's pick up where I left off last night. There really was a tremendous amount of 80's & 90's cards, but I didn't scan them. Those were not the reason I bought the lot. I showed you the vintage stuff that I did NOT need (the dupes). Of course I didn't know that I didn't need those until I actually got them home sorted them and then checked to see if they were needs.

One of the boxes in the lot were a bunch of books and I wanted them for sure.

I got two books in this scan. Sort of, those are post cards. I have decided to leave them in the book.

This book is still wrapped in plastic. I mention this because I went through all of the other books because you never know what may be hiding inside. In the past I have found money.... paper money and even cards.  Nothing this go around though.

This book looks like a lot of fun. If enough people comment about wanting to see some or all of the cartoons inside I may just post them. Below is the back cover to give you an idea of the cartoons inside.

The next 4 books are from Dover publications. Reminds me a few years back Dime Box Nick while working at a book store grabbed some of these broken the cards out and shared them with some us. Thank you again Nick.

It is so tempting to free those reprints, but I have decided to leave them be (even though 3 of the 4 books have Braves cards in them.

Now moving on to more vintage from the collection. This time needs that have been met.

A slew of 58's for my set build.

Maybe no Mickey Mantle or Hank Aaron cards but pretty sure I got my $225.00 worth in just tonight's scans and if you have to add in all of those rookies from yesterday. All of the cards here are keepers even if I had them in the set builds. The stars if that was the case went into those PC boxes that need sorted and checked against my PC lists to see if I need them there.

Now I did make my normal purchase from Kyle's dollar boxes and will post them for tomorrow and on Friday, there were a lot of goodies.

I did that again??????

The winner last night was: John Sharp

Okay, last week I finished the story about the junk wax I bought at the Jacksonville card show a couple of weeks ago. I started that story the week prior and left y'all hanging for a few days yet I showed no cards. Well that is not going to be the case for the junk collection I bought just 4 days after the last one. Nope, this time around I have some scans, days worth too. I bought another collection while at the card shop in Ormond. I even paid more for that one by $50.00. Why in the world would I do that? I'll tell you why as we progress through the haul. Don't get me wrong I also bought some of my normal stuff while I was there, a lot in fact and I will get to that stuff eventually.

Why did I pay $225.00 for a whole bunch of junk wax? Because it was scattered with vintage. The above scans and the vintage below were all dupes that I didn't need, but they were in the collection.

I didn't need a single one of the above for my set builds. I did however move most of the stars to my PC boxes to find out another day if I need them there. Hey and there were a couple of non baseball cards in the mix as well.

Again, dupes and not needed. But let us peek at some other goodies that was the boxes.

A few graded cards highlighted with the Arod rookie, but I didn't need that either. The Sample Palmeiro was new to me though.

The 1990 Topps Larry Walker is the Tiffany (glossy) rookie sitting with a few other rookies like Jeter!

Some more Junk rookies.

A pair of Jeter rookies, nice grabs even though I do not them I am keeping them.

A couple of Kirby Puckett rookies. A couple of Starting Lineup cards.

A slathering of nice rookie cards here. Needless to say, but I do have these probably in both the set builds and the PC, but just in case that is where they sit.

I purposely posted the dupe Salmon and Piazza Mother's cookies as when I bought these both were PC guys, alas I have decided to thin out the monstrosity of PC guys. Moving (at least in my head) many binder guys to either box guys or straight out dumping them (in the future that is) into my dupes/trade boxes. Yep dumping 30 or 40 guys altogether with another 50 or so moving to the maybe later boxes. At the same time I will be moving a handful of the maybe later /future guys to the PC.

There was some odd ball stuff in the collection too.  Want to know what this is?

Round Playing cards. Quite a bit more to get through over the course of this week from the trip to Ormond. There was a box of books in that junk collection too and I haven't scanned them yet, but do plan on it.
