Back in February I went over to Ormond and made a deal with a buddy (Mike). I brought back at ton of stuff that Mike normally has in his dollar boxes at card shows. Probably close to 1500 cards. I did not scan them all as that would take a month to post. I did about a third of them and will scatter them over 3 posts with a surprise on the last scan of the last post.
Great stopping point here for tonight. Shiny A&G. Excuse me....foil filigree.
Who comes up with those names or descriptions?
These were 20 cents each? I hope I get that lucky at my next card show. Some of them I can understand seeing in quarter-or-less boxes, but Ohtani?!? Soto mojo? Altuve Big League SP? Some steals there.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing variety of cards. You have put together a networking group and seem to be adding to it all the time. I guess we all have a talent that we can use. Sometimes it is hard to get going and sometimes we get on a roll. I think the Twins won today. I have MLB.TV but due to blackouts, yes you know. Have a great evening.
ReplyDeleteNot jealous about scanning those 500 cards... but I'm totally jealous of those 5 for a dollar Ohtanis.
ReplyDeleteTons of great parallels. Looks like a lot of fun to sort through his boxes.
ReplyDeleteWhen you see people selling stuff like this that cheap, I can't help but wonder what the future holds for the collectibility of modern cards.
ReplyDeleteI've been saying this for a few years now. "The Pandemic pricing that we have been living in will be looked at in the future just like the "junk wax" era". So many people are going to have lots of "regrets". It took a couple of years but we the collectors all but eliminated the blaster flippers, remaining now is the horrendous super breakers (bigtime flippers) that are keeping the prices high are crushing the limited number of hobby shops. Prospector's have always been around and more than likely will for sometime, but that doesn't affect collector's too much. A little yes, but overall no. There will always be someone like me, with the sole purpose in my blog to highlight the deals I find. I am good at it I know (patting self on shoulder). Patience is very important, but also asking or telling that I expect a deal and be willing to walk away. I prospect a lot (at super cheap prices or FREE lol). I have always found deals they are out there and have always been. You just need to speak up....if you don't ask the answer will always be NO. Even then no harm no foul nothing changed. Nothing to lose nothing lost. Ask.... or tell.... and the possibility of deal becomes real. I've been doing this a very long time dealer's get to know you and in time the dealers one deals with slims down, relationships form, and time the most treasured of all resources is no longer wasted where deals can not be had. I try to to attend larger shows with 80-200 tables and spend the entire show with those few whom I know appreciate the business, no time with those who don't. I will browse the tables of new to me vendors and feel them out. I take great pleasure when walking past (and looking at) the dealers that have proven to me that they are not my kind of dealer. Many turn away so as not to look at my eyes while others are hopeful that I might one day "visit" them again. After all they certainly are aware of my acquisitions from their competitors. I enjoyed responding here.
DeleteThanks, that's a great response. Great tips and perspective
