Wacky Wednesday: a short one

At the last show in Jax, I was able to find 4 needs for my vintage Wacky Packages.

This pair is from the first series.  The Kook-aid is a tan back (tougher), and the Grave Train is a white back. I have the complete cloth series. I still need a baker's dozen of the stickers, after which I will then break it down to a tan set and a white set.

This one is miscut. I still need one more sticker from Series 10: Casket Soap.

This is my first sticker from Series 13.

That's it. I have to run home (Ocala) Friday, so that post will be later when I get back. Tomorrow will be more show cards.

More from the card show

Moving on from Fred's table, and onto Kyle's.

Kyle's boxes are always dollar boxes. I pulled a slew banking on a good deal. The Markakis that is flipped over is a holo back.

I'll be posting cards from this table all week (other than tomorrow's Wacky Wednesday post).

I wound up paying 50 cents each for these cards. Normally I get them for a bit cheaper.

I needed these for the set build.

Can't pass up on cheap high end cards.

Plenty of parallels too.

Yep, he's gone: Elvis

 Date of death: 8/16/77.

I do have a bunch more Elvis back home. One day, I'll get them scanned into this file. May the King rest in peace.

Friday, last day of Fred

Don't forget to guess what I paid for all 5 posts.

I know most of these are beat up, and I probably don't need many of them.

I just can't seem to let them stay.

Lots of dupes too.

Okay that is a wrap. I got everything you've seen all week (Monday-Friday) from my friend Fred at the Jacksonville card show last Saturday. First one to correctly guess what he charged me for all of them might win a little something.

Round 4 from Fred's Table

Real quick one tonight, got a ballgame to watch.

4 posts in a row with 1 more after this one. Then you should guess what Fred charged me. Just a reminder. As for tonight it is a short post.

1966 Black Bat Batman.

The backstory on the 4 cards above. 1960 Leaf  Mr. Foney's Funnies 62 card set. There was also a Canadian parallel called Mr. Baloney's Comics.62 card set.

Wacky Wednesday: special edition.

Like I have mentioned over the previous two posts, this post also highlights cards that I picked up Saturday at the card show in Jacksonville from my friend Fred.

We all know about the Wacky Packages stickers and such, but did you know Topps produced a set of Wacky Plaks back in 1959 (88 cards/plaks). Those same plaks were also re-issued in 1965, but with different numbering and were called Kookie Plaks. The 65'  re-issue set also was preceded by a test sticker set of the first 44. I would love to get a hold of a set of those, super rare. BTW, the 65' set above is also rarer than the 59's. WhileI am at the Topps Wacky history, there are also a 1969 set called Wacky Ads.

Well, I grabbed up some of the original 1959 plaks.

These are not standard card/sticker size. More like the old basketball tall boys.

A view from the back. Next week will be another sticker day of just a few needs that I picked up from a different seller.

Fred part two

 Tonight is all Mike Trout.

I am sure I already have a few of these. It has been about year or so since I pulled a lot of Trout at this show.

Don't forget to keep a tally for the week run of Fred's cards.

SUCCESS

I had a good day at the card show this past Saturday. I won't be able to attend next month, so I'll have to spread this haul out all month. By then, I should have a Sportlots order in to cover next month. To start off I had the part-time helper (the main and only help I have) come in at 5:30 am so that I could be at the show before it started. That is a MAJOR plus because I can hit up my buddy Fred before his great deals are gone. I'll be showing Fred's table gets this week......all week.

It was National baseball card day, and here are my freebies. The Acuna was great for me plus the Vlad and Votto are PC guys.

I snagged a few Stadium Club singles for the PC from Fred. There are more from another seller too.

The top two were for the set build. Grabbed Croneworth for the RC boxes.

More cards for the PC binders, and yes that is a 2nd Dalbec.

How about a serial numbered Braves autograph card from this year's Museum?

This scan was supposed to be before the auto card. As you can see some nice Museum cards for my Braves. Numbered paralleled Hank Aaron, parallel Acuna and a pair of Canvas Collection with the bubble gum blowing Acuna and the Freeman. Pache DK Debut and a pair of Gypsy Queen parallels. (black & white, and chrome).

This is a great stopping point for today. When I am done with Fred's cards I will be asking for ya'll to guess what he charged me. This will include the Wacky Wednesday post this week that will be showing some VINTAGE items from Topps Wackys. So, if I am correct all 5 posts this week will be from Fred.....stay tuned. I may reward the first to guess correctly.

$135.00 for a 1953 Mickey Mantle??????

I got a little too excited when I was wheeling and dealing with an Ebay seller recently. A lot of scans in this post, be patient. I'm sure I paid way too much.

To start things off, the box is labeled on the front bottom left corner as 1968. Some lists count this as the 1969 Cadaco-Ellis All Star game. But it is the 68' standard version. They released two different sets that year. With that said, the pics above show the box lid, game board and stand up along with all 4 of the plastic pegs and the scoring sheet. That is all that I got from the 1968 game. No discs. (for now).

The following are from 1988 complete set of discs. (62)

Basically three different styles of discs in the above set.

Now I know that everything above might be worth $20.00-30.00. I am actually high bidder on an actual complete 1968 set, box and discs everything for $20 plus shipping right now. With that said this is what I was really paying for.

A complete set minus Sam Maglie of 1953 Cadaco discs. You can see the Mickey Mantle on top there.

Yeah, I probably overpaid for these. I blame it on the crazy hobby we're in right now. I did also get 3 of the wooden pegs to go with the 53' set.

Not your everyday baseball cards (I know they are discs and not cards).
