Me being me. I dun went and dun et. OOPS I did it again (this time on TCDB) and a ComC update

I guess I am on fire. Not literally or physically of course. Apparently some people only care about getting points on TCDB (I'm not one of those). I am one that wants to get my entire collection listed in the data base. An actual title worth having. You know I've been working on that for the last couple of years. I've made a lot of progress as I WORK through the PC update this go around. Recently in fact last week I started and completed my Mickey Mantle cards. Overall I have 552 different Mantle cards in the system with 11 cards that I could not find in the system. I have 495 Mantle cards in his PC binder. Some I could identify as they are all over EBay and other sites, but not listed. Most of course didn't have the year so I hit the forums. You know the one that is supposed to help you with "card identification" or "mystery card". I took the time about 30 minutes to scan fronts and backs individually so as to have clean crisp pictures. Then I put the 11 items on the forum which only took 5 minutes. Before I had the 3rd card on there I started getting some crap from 1 specific guy (and then a 2nd chimed in) both at  point level L8 who:

1) He isn't trading on the site. I'm okay with that as I don't either right now. I'd rather have my cards inputted first and then decide which ones I want to get rid of.

2) His collection isn't growing. Mine is and at super speed levels (I'm currently #27 on the site in total cards entered (#14 in baseball cards) and I still need the other 90% of my collection put it.  Get the idea. I care more about getting the #1 recognition for my collection and not being recognized for points that are supposed to be earned for helping some one else. Oh yeah, he didn't help me...did he. No points for him on this one. Not resolved.

3) He is answering the card id forum without actually answering the forum, ie: messaged me over and over for hours and days blasting me, and never once identifying any of the cards or even mentioning them. (getting points- well trying too anyways).

4) A 2nd L8 guy (obviously a point buddy), chimed in reiterating some stuff then called me lazy and unresourceful well "quote" I come across as that way. When I replied with the work that I do put in especially when trying to identify a card, he replies no one called me that. UH dude YOU DID! Some people are just always going to whine and bi_ch no matter what. Kind of like what this post is doing, but once posted and comments answered when needed I'll be done.

5) Remind you guys here I have about 2 million more cards to run against the TCDB system. Those still need to be entered if I can identify them (now that's just me being a smart a_s).

6) Let me say that this ordeal has been 50/50. Half siding with me (liking- I guess that's still a thing) and the other half siding with that first nincompoop. I am sure when I log in today there will be notifications. In fact, one of my BLOG readers dropped me an e-mail this Saturday morning letting me know he's seen the fiasco going on.

Here are my final thoughts, if you can't answer the TCDB question, don't answer it unless you actually have a positive suggestion where I might actually find the answer (even though my experienced resourceful and NOT lazy self has already checked those before asking for help). As for unlicensed cards not being listed on the site, BULL Dookie, there are tens of thousands of them listed already. If you list one of them and count it as a card then ethically you should include ALL of them. BTW, some of those 11 cards are licensed, just no copyright year on them. Promo stuff for the most part.

Now for a ComC update. Other than the "survey request" regarding how'd we do? I haven't heard a thing since "Stacy" was sending it to her supervisor (Julia , the owner). Also of note, found their Black Friday Cyber Monday e-mail sitting in my spam folder. Yeah, rather NOPE no free shipping again this year. Crapola offer. Guess I need to follow up with the BBB to see what's up on their end.

You folks go out and have a POSITIVE impact on the world, and if you can't then just stay home (lol) that's just me being me again. Peace everybody.

  1. A couple of observations from my opinion. Site expansion comes from adding cards with identification and scans. That comes for various sources including some from me. I'm not looking for points or moving up the level ladder. I use the site for card recognition and have been able to find most of them. Due to the size of your collection, you would stand a chance at having more cards to add to the site that I could ever comprehend. That is a resource to be tapped into. Others have other things to offer. Working towards a common goal is what should be wanted. Unfortunately, what one person thinks is different than someone else. I don't think there is any way to have a complete set of rules for everyone to follow. For what I use it for I don't run into many issues. I agree there needs to be checks and balances, but I also think there should be some room for variation. Bottom line is that if you have multiple card ID items you need it shouldn't be a problem to ask. In the years I have been on the site I may have had one. All members should be able to add their knowledge because any of us may have something constructive to add. OK. My ramble is over for now. Every item of information added should be appreciated. We need as much positive as we can give or get. Enjoy it and have Thanksgiving every day!

    1. I agree with that, and look you did it with just 1 reply. You are correct I have thousands of cards not listed on the site. I work my fanny off just getting the ones that are in there and rarely ask for ID on ones that I need help with or just don't ask to add it to the data base. But Mickey Mantle cards, you bet I want to know what it is and also include it in the data base. AS far as helping the site, I could literally add tens of thousands of card fronts and double up with the backs too, but that I will not do until everything that I can list there is listed there. Then I can do some of the other stuff the site would benefit from. I am a very very long way from getting things entered though.

Dang it now I'm hungry again. See you dun dun et two.

    2. You are right. We all do what we can if we want to. We have choices and lots of other things to do also. I pick and choose. I read blogs including yours. I may write my own someday. I think it boils down to doing things a step at a time. One step forward adds one to the cause, whatever that cause may be.

  2. He thinks he rules the forum and the sight. I'm surprised he didn't tell you that it was just missing a print layer 🙄 (his usual answer to literally anything in the mystery forum)
His bs is one of the several reasons I was off the site from 2023 until this month when I used the wantlist feature at a show which helped me a ton.

    1. yeah there are a few guys like him on there, that use the same ole same ole most of the time. What drove me nuts was the time he was wasting messaging me. Oh well, to each their own they say

  3. The things that turn me off about the ‘points system’ are like you said, it’s a status system. A system that I will never be able to advance in because even though my entire collection is on the site and I’ve done close to 50 trades, I don’t add pictures to the site.
They won’t accept a clear photo from a phone, it has to be a scan. Technology has come a long way, and it is easy to get a good photo with a phone. Scanning every card individually is very time consuming, so therefore, I have tons of serial numbered cards, minor league issues, college issues, whatever, that won’t get added to the site cause they freak out over a phone picture. And they punish me by not giving me ‘points’.
Just let the site be for the good of the entire collecting community, not just some. And let your Braves doubles count towards your total.

    1. LOL. I have a apx 200K of the Braves dupes, lol. well, I have been slowly working them back into garage boxes. Most are in those now.

    2. Most of the pictures they are missing and there is a ton are just regular cards and are all on Ebay or the internet. No idea why there IT guys can't just write a code to be able to easily put the pics in. It is the main reason I don't add photos now.

  4. That sounds unnecessarily stressful. I really just use the site for my Tino list and some light PWE trading. I don't think I've ever uploaded anything new or hit the forums...this doesn't make me want to!

I probably have 500 or so Mantles myself from all the various sets over the years, but I don't think I'll ever input them!

  5. There are a ton of different "topics" in the forums, and I'm sure some of them aren't so filled with absolute nincompoops, lol. There are only a few that question complain, or give "wrong" info and then resolve the issue without any effort put it other than a reply in the mystery card ID card forums. No matter where we go there will always be "people" like that. I just choose to avoid them when possible (otherwise I'd just soon shoot them- me being me, lol). Just kidding....or am I? LOL see that is me being me too.

  6. Sorry you had to deal with this kind of drama. I know people look at card collecting from different points of view, but to me it's a hobby (something done in one's leisure time for pleasure). Dealing with stuff like this isn't pleasurable. Hope you're able to identify those 11 cards. Heck post them on here and maybe we can help you out. Who needs those trolls. Happy Tuesday buddy!

    1. Yeah, I try to live a stress free life and don't let "stuff" like that bother me. In 1 ear and out the other for the most part, but sometimes venting/ranting getting it off the chest is beneficial not just to me but for others too. What really gets my goat is the still under review with the post office on that one package, and the BBB complaint yet to be dealt with regarding ComC new shipping pricing. Now that stuff bothers me, the TCDB, I chalk that up as somebody out there in the world is probably just a miserable person in general. :)

  7. TCDB has some weird territoriality on there that even in my minimal exposure to the site as a user immediately turned me off of using it for cataloging my collection. My]ore power to you for trying but yeah, it's not for me.

And good luck with the BBB and COMC. I'm going to go on a splurge this week so as to make the bulk shipping as bad a deal for them as I can and then I'm done with the site. Replacing the usual Black Friday shipping voucher (which was already a weaksauce replacement for the 100-card shipping voucher that they ✌️temporarily✌️ suspended in 2020) with that stupid ass top buyer competition is a crystal clear indication that they don't want customers like me anymore.
