Another complete set or two the hard way.

I completed a couple (update) 5 more high end sets. I've worked hard recently getting cards to mark off of the now 16 excel spread sheets (1 for each high end brand). Normally, I would be picking this is a an extremely slow fashion, snagging them from dime or quarter boxes. But, lately I hit up all of the online options: ComC, Sport Lots (huge stack waiting in those inventories still), even hit Ebay up for some large lots like this one.

I picked up a 211 card lot from Ebay. The seller wanted $169.00 and I offered $125.00 with the free shipping. That cost me roughly .59 each card.  Which is more than I usually pay for these cards except for the "stars". No problem taking down a Pujols for example for .50. But I wanted to really get some of this stuff done so that I can binder them up or at least start the process.

The cards above are Topps Tribute and that is the kind of cards I was expecting. However, I wasn't expecting so many cards from the 2014 set which I have completed (it's okay they go to the PC). I also didn't expect the following.

These cards were in the lot, I never seen them before or at least didn't pay attention to them. They are insert and really nice. They will go to the PC.

The backs had a nice write up on them so I scanned them too.

Same with this set.

Obviously I've seen the Canvas Collection (pair at bottom) before, but the other three are like the first insert set above. If I subtract these cards from the total that means I paid .79 a piece which is getting to the danger zone, typically I would only go .75 ish for a Brave I needed or a really special player SP type card.

Alas, I am not unhappy with the purchase far from it. The rest of the cards really did do some damage to those high end sets. I'll spread the lot over several posts winding up with 5 additional posts for the 5 sets that were completed.

Have a great night.

Bottom of the box.

Well, not exactly bottom of the box but you get my drift. This is the last post of the one box I scanned from the show. The keepers anyways. All in all I wound up with about 2,500 cards of players I collect (from both boxes). Basically they were the same as far as contents. Tonight you get the last few scans of the deal.

There were a lot of Mosaic cards.

Even more Topps Chrome. I didn't mind the pink parallels so much.

A bunch of Prizm too.

So many 21' Chrome cards. I took the privilege of not scanning most of them. Now, I did make another deal with this seller. Not for his "dime" boxes but cards from his dollar boxes. He had three and I dug through them all. Again they were split between baseball, football, and basketball. Pretty much even as far as numbers go. Now with the 2 dime boxes out of the way, I know I did not get my $100.00 (50 each box) worth for my collections. Definitely, made that twelve year old a very happy boy, and hopefully a good memory to last through his collecting. That in itself was worth it. However, you'll see in the coming posts on the 2nd half of the purchase/deal.

Have a great night.

The box of cards part two.

Typing this as I'm watching baseball, so I am distracted. I typically write these up late at night after anything good on t.v. and before Gutfeld comes on. Love that show, it is funny and serious all at the same time.

Just a bunch of cards of PC guys that I more than likely don't need, we'll see whenever I get to updating the PC boxes that need sorted and checked against my excel sheets. It is about 25K cards to be checked. UGH. I'm going to thin that herd as I go through them. Not quit collecting or gathering their cards, but just throw them into their own box. Hopefully wind up with just 1000 guys to be sorted, lol.

One more post of the box cards and then the final purchase made from this very same seller. It's doozie too.

Eh, maybe not so good

Okay, I mentioned in yesterday's post that my 2nd stop would be spread over several posts. Why? Because I bought 2 monster boxes of cards. These were dime boxes and I paid $50.00 each. I didn't feel like picking through them at the show. They had about 2500 cards in each box and they were mixed baseball, football, and basketball. I only collect baseball. So I knew right off the bat that I was going to lose out on the rest. In the end there were about 2500 baseball cards. The rest (FB and BKB) I gave to a 12 year old boy who plays both sports. So that alone was worth the $50.00 lost on those cards, and yes they were loaded with stars past & present.

That is what one box looked like. That kid should have hours and hours of fun.

I only scanned the baseball keepers from the first box. Both boxes were basically the same so why bother. There is still a ton of scans so let's get to them.

Okay so I pulled 27 Braves from box 1. Most I did not need. At the end of this run of posts I will show you the ones I needed (Braves).

Obviously the Hoskins is a refractor/prizm, love the way the refractors/prizms are scanning.

A lot of PC guys that I probably already have or rather most of them anyway. I'll stop here for the night/week. I'll put out the rest of the box 1 cards next week.

Have a safe weekend.

Dime a piece

Tonight we have the rest of the "quarter" cards from Daryl that cost me a dime each.

Just a reminder that I'm pretty sure I didn't need any of these because I already at least one of them already. But for a dime? Yeah I'm picking them out.

Even snagged some inserts.

Jackie Robinson cards for a dime, you bet. Flair, man I remember these when they came out. They came in a box/pack. They were the high end cards of the day.

The Miggy is a rainbow foil, you just can't tell in the scan.

A bunch of PC guys that again I probably already have.

I feel good about the $20.00 spent.  Now, in case you didn't catch it or thought maybe you missed a post. I titled yesterday's post 3rd stop. That is because I only made 1 other purchase from stop two. But, That post is going to take many posts. I'll explain in tomorrow's opening post for that seller.

Have a great night.

3rd stop at the show

My third purchase at last weekend's card show was my buddy Daryl. I hit his "quarter boxes". There were 3 baseball monster boxes. I pulled 200 and paid a dime each. $20.00. I'll break these up into two posts.

All variations and ones that I already own, but couldn't leave them in a box knowing they would only be a dime.

Same thing here with Braves at a dime a piece. Didn't need any of these.

I've been gathering up Finest cards all year. Not tracking what I have yet. One day I will figure out what I have, just wasn't going to leave any for a dime.

Some well worth a dime rookies in there.

And a few more worthy dime cards here. I'll finish these up tomorrow.

Have a great night.

$60.00

I went to the Jax. card show this past Saturday. I only stayed a few hours and spent about a third of what I would normally spend. As per usual, I stopped at Fred's tables first and spent $60.00.

Here is what I got.

Did some more prospecting. Is this worth $60.00?

How about now? I know Wander is not having a great year, but still. Did I get my monies worth yet?

What if I throw this guy in? He is the hottest player right now. Let me know when I hit the $60.00 worth.

How about I add some Ohtani, Judge, Mantles and a Clemente? Am I getting close to value?

Okay I'll throw in Mike Trout including the 2013 and 2014 above.

Alright, 4 more.

What if I throw in these stars? Have I got my $60.00 worth yet?

Now you know I had to grab up some Braves too.  A mini collection with the No Hitter card plus Ronnie's brother who is doing pretty good right now (so is the youngest brother).

So, did I get my monies worth?  Wait.......

I also got a 2022 Topps Series 2 set.

How did I do?
