A while in the works

For years, decades even I have "collected" more like acquired or better yet accumulated relic cards and autographed cards from pretty much any sport. These days, I do not go after anything but baseball. Not the high dollar ones either. The ones that you find in dollar boxes or slightly more (3-5). I have in the past and every chance I get is to buy them in bulk. Of course at a huge discount, and most of the time it works out. I have hundreds back home, and hundreds here with me in Valdosta. I still have a boatload of basketball and football that I seriously want to trade for baseball relics and autos. I did do a little of that a couple of years ago.

Anyways, last month (a few weeks ago) I did a Black Friday ComC rampage with a focus on the autos and some relics. I did pretty good and landed some stars too. They should be here in a couple of weeks which gives me time to highlight what I did at the Jacksonville card show 2 weeks ago. I planned to not spend a lot of time digging through boxes this go around. That would take hours at each table and I would only get through a few dealers. And being it would be the first time leaving my uncle with the new weekend aide, I didn't want to waste time. I was tempted especially at the near dozen nickel boxes. But, nope I didn't fall for it. I didn't see many dime or quarter boxes. There were a few here and there, but I just skipped past those boxes. I wound up only making two deals (besides my buddy Fred I spent $20.00 with him).

Those 2 deals were big ones. One was a dollar box (3k count) of insert and parallel cards. I guessed incorrectly I might add that there was 1,800 cards in the box. There was only 1,300 when I got home. So the deal wasn't as good as I hoped. For now I am not scanning or posting those. Of the 1,300 526 cards I couldn't fit into the many areas I collect, 144 were FB and BKB. I'm getting sidetracked here, back to the focus.

The other box was autos & relics stars included! Also it was a 3k count marked $3-5). So I have scanned them up and will be spending much of the remainder of the year posting them. Before I go on, I removed all of the non baseball leaving me with 373 + 3 from his behind the case cards.

This is a multi facetted theme. I have my thoughts on the "autographed" market or rather the cards and signatures themselves. I have created a point system for them. (If I can find that paper) LOL.

Secondly,  there will be sections of guys that are NOT part of my PC's and therefore are available for trade. Again, there are stars in there too.

With that said here is the first cards to post on.

These first four cards are keepers for me. They are in my "Potential Future" PC boxes. Tony Clark is in their too as a maybe one day guy. Let's give out the points.

First, I award ZERO points for IP/TTM autos, 1 point for sticker graph, and 2 points for on card certified. Then I award points on the signature itself. I have 3 categories for the sig. YUK = just signing initials or pure lazy scribbles, zero effort. I still award points for the 3 categories 1-3 points. OKAY = shows effort, full name is a +, semi legible scribbles 4-6 points. Perfection = clean fully seen sig, sweet sig, or extra effort 7-10 points. Let's add these 4 guys up.

Alzolay: 2 points (1 for sticker and 1 for YUK).

White: 7 points (2 for on card and 5 for (okay) not his full name but used some effort).

Clark: 7 points (on card and OKAY full name not just scribbles).

Gonsolin: 6 points (on card and some effort, but not really legible).

That's how I look at signed cards.

These four relics are also in the "Potential Future PC" box.

Same goes for these 9. and the ones below. No trade bait in this post.

The Turner is a good looking relic card. Shame that jumbo swatch on the Mize is plain white. See ya tomorrow night.

Cleaning up

As this year nears it's end I have a bunch of scans to get posted. Most are from the most recent card show. Some will be be from my Black Friday ComC haul. Those two groups are closely related. I will explain more when I start posting them. My last SportLots haul will be skipped. No biggie as the majority of the 530 card box order were 90% set builds. I usually don't scan those anyways, and I didn't this time either.

I will however, post this most recent completed project.

I know many of you folks could care less about this sort of set or for Sosa (or McGwire) for that matter. They are both PC guys of mine, but I for one would be supportive of an asterisk by any stats in the books. With that said, I still collect their cards therefore I need all of these 1999 Topps HR cards. I am still working on McGwire's set. I have been working on these sets since 1999. 22 years is a long time. I took a short cut with the Sosa set. I bought the complete thing on Ebay recently. So now I have some extras. I'm okay with that. Now to find the cheap Macs.

Oldies but Goodies

1940 PlayBall.

The second Coffman is the "Superman" variation. I picked these 4 cards up at OPCbaseball.com

Have a great weekend.

Some 2021's for me.

 Lets

My 2021 Stadium club Chrome.

I really don't understand why the TSC inserts from Flagship, and then a separate release shortly thereafter?????? This is one of those WTF. Anyways.

I need these for the inserts: 57, 203, 204, 268.

I need these for the base: 121, 193, 245, 392.

Go figure. I couldn't tell you what the difference between the cards are if you asked me. I'm sure there is.  Let's move on.

As per my usual, I break my own no blaster rule when it comes to the Holiday release. There must have been 100 boxes on the shelf, literally not kidding. I bought 8.

Here are the highlights.

My oranaments.

The 8th relic was Acuna, shown below.

The Buehler is truly a Christmas card.

I basically got 3 sets of base cards (2 and 3 are missing a few cards). The first box I opened I pulled the autograph is like odds of 4100 packs. Yeah me. Although, don't know the guy, lol. The Buehler was a great pull as was the two VARIATION Braves. Acuna is the rare 427. Freeman is the SP 426 and I wound up with like four of that one. I am once again building the variations (all 3 codes). Likewise the relics too. Send me what you got.

Tomorrow will be a 4 card 1 scan vintage post.

Wacky Wednesday

Hump day again. Here are tonight's picks.

Pearl Harbor

December 7, 1941 was 80 years ago. WoW! As per my usual here is my Pearl Harbor set.

Besides the typical history on these cards, I'll throw you a curve ball.....My 2nd wife was named Dorie Miller.  Actually her birth name was Adorinda, but went by Dorie.

Have a great day/night!

Let's do this

I've picked up some Ebay wins in recent weeks.

I actually got the 2000 Gold Label Braves above from CardBarrel. I had also ordered the class 1 & 3 Furcal, but he couldn't find them. So I still need those two to close out that team set.

I already had the Maddux. Still need Acuna to close out that team set.

This team set is complete. I must say they are ugly. Keith Shore. Also want to gripe that they are like the 89 Bowman's in size too.

Closing tonight out with this nice Swanson numbered to just 9.

Vintage from Bo

Bo and I made a recent trade. I had commented on one of his posts about needing one of the cards available for trade. Bo replied back no problems and that he would peck at my want lists.

The Harridge and Giles card was the one card I asked for. It fills a hole in my 1957 Topps set build.

So Bo came up with quite a few cards to fill in some gaps in my set builds, Thank you Bo. I will eventually have to upgrade the majority of these, but until then the holes are rather will be occupied. (I need to get off my butt and put them in the binders).

On a side note, I am planning on making the Jax. card show tomorrow. The 2 new helpers here are coming along. The weekday aide is wonderful. The weekender is coming along, she is still a bit nervous, lacking confidence. Still I am planning on heading out tomorrow, which should build that confidence. Fingers crossed all goes well.

Ebay warning: MUST READ

Just putting this out there. Avoid this seller:

Houstonbaseballcards

This seller does not answer messages nor does he believe he should leave feedback on small sales.

I sent these messages dating back to October.

10/30: I got the card today, thank you. No problems. Please leave my feedback so that I can then leave yours. Again, thank you.

11/24: 2nd request. Please leave feedback so that I can then leave yours. It has been 1 month.

Here is the transcript from him after I left him negative feedback (he did not respond to 2 or 3 messages I sent him over the course of a month.

his 1st reply to the feedback:

Did you just literally leave me negative feed back because i didn’t leave positive feedback on a $2 card purchase?

I replied back:

No, I left you negative feedback because of the multiple unanswered messages. Communication is 1 of the 4 grading AREAS for sellers, which is what your feed back is based upon. You scored poor in 1 of the 4 areas, that got you a negative. Whether a buyer spends 1 penny or a thousand bucks, they should get the same customer service.

His 2nd reply:

The email you sent acknowledging you received your item and everything was good was where our communication ended. I have no issues leaving buyers feedback and I’m sure someone like yourself with that high of a rating understands the impact it has to smaller overall rated individuals like myself. There’s nothing to communicate if you got the item you wanted and on time. Feedback isn’t a requirement and you aren’t guaranteed it for every purchase nor am I required as a seller to give it to every buyer on every purchase.

Keep in mind buyers who have a repeated habit of doing to this to sellers risk having their account reviewed and closed due to malicious intent once it’s been escalated eBay’s compliance and quality assurance area.

Sounds like a threat to me. my reply:

There is nothing malicious here on my part (maybe on yours with your threat). You and I disagree on whether you should be responding to every message as your feedback is not just based on receiving the item, that is but 1 area of your rating. Also in disagreement is that you SHOULD be leaving feedback on every purchase, period. You scored poor in communication because of each unanswered message as well as failure to leave feedback on the purchase. End of story.

His 3rd reply:

Leaving feedback on every purchase isn’t a requirement and me advising to you that i’m escalating this to have it reviewed and if it comes back that you intentionally did this and have done it to multiple sellers in the same unjustified manner can be a violation of ebay terms and services isn’t a threat. It’s me taking the avenues offered by ebay to protect myself. Crazy coincidence that the last buyer who did this had over 8 instances of it in the last year and his account was closed indefinitely though.

It’s okay I felt the need to post our situation on some of the larger forums just to see how everyone else is reacting to what you did and clearly the people asking for your ebay username to block you because this is clearly a malicious move is obvious.

It’s all good buddy. We’ll get this all squared away.

I needless to say did not respond to this. Well, other than by posting this warning.

Avoid this lazy seller.

Wacky Wednesday

Have you noticed that commenting is like down to nothing these days? Maybe it's just here. I don't know.

A little of everything here.
