Any Yankees fans out there? Plus more from Target

Well, recently I had the good fortune of winning an Ebay auction with free shipping. Grand total of the below 3 pictures $3.25 delivered to my door today. Excellent condition too!

Yep, that's the Mick alright March 4, 1957 Sports Illustrated.

Hank Bauer

 Spring training 1958

And the 7 cards below are some more from that Target Blaster, nice Willie Mays. (still working/practicing with the picture manager, didn't work this time)

YES, CROPPED PICS & TARGET BLASTER

THANKS TO MY FELLOW BLOGGERS WHO HELPED ME WITH THIS. LOL, I STILL NEED TO PLAY AROUND WITH THE PICTURE MANAGER, BUT AT LEAST I CAN SHOW YOU THESE

LAST MONDAY I STOPPED BY TARGET AND BOUGHT A $11.99 BLASTER BOX. LOW AND BEHOLD I PULLED 15 INSERTS INCLUDING THE 2 ABOVE (AND I PULLED THE GOLDSCHMIDT TOO, HEHE). THAT ORTIZ IS COOL, BUT I ALSO PULLED THESE TOO.

THE PEDROIA IS NICE (I HAVE THE HANK AARON A CUT ABOVE), BUT THAT BABE CARD, WOW! THE BABE BEATS OUT THE ORTIZ CARD FOR SURE. ANYWAYS, I WAS JUST PRACTICING HERE WITH THE PICS, SO FAR SO GOOD AND HOPEFULLY THE POSTS WILL BE MORE PICENTERED. (PLAY ON WORDS). THE CARDS ABOVE ARE FOR TRADE, AS THEY ARE NOT BRAVES, SO...............

AGAIN THANKS TO THOSE WHO HELPED, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

Finally....Pictures but....

Okay, I finally figured out how to add some pictures. Unfortunately now I have to work on how my scanner saves pics. But either way at least i can put some pictures in my posts.

To start off with I have narrowed my favorite December cards down to 7. Not counting what is still to come in.

Here those 7 are.....

Its a start, hopefully in time I will figure out the scanner to just show the card at not the entire flatbed (1 at a time).

The card in the upper right corner is supposedly a statue of Terry Pendleton  (no likeness at all).
I really really like the Aaron bust at Turner Field. Who can complain about the rainbows (orange and emerald). Or the mini, I had a tough time not including the 1975 mini's in this contest, but opted to not included them as they have been around for a long time, at least for the favorite. Maybe for the toughest get though. Although that Aaron above is serial numbered to 99.
The Lofton card is an awesome card, if you check the stats on the back you understand why he is at the wall marked 330. He reached that number in stolen bases with Atlanta, finishing that year with 332.

Contest update

Jeff Yeo added another 20 points this week, and Kyle Dworchak added another 18. Thanks guys!

Still time left.

Prize reminders: up for grabs are 2 1977 intact Pepsi gloves and some 1983 ovesize super star cards!

OOPS, I did it again AGAIN

Well,  this morning I went off to one of the flea markets. And............ It was slow there, usually is according the vendors this same weekend every year due to a couple of Christmas parades keep people away. I looked for the vintage guy, not there. Looked for the guy who sold me that Mantle auto card, not there either. Good thing my old friend was there (BOB, the one I've known for 20 years). Anyways, I hung out at his booth for a few hours, and picked through all of his stuff that wasn't out, hidden in cubbies and boxes, buried covered up, forgotten about by all.

Bob was having a tough day, made $5.00 profit for the day (not counting the rent there). So I figured I'd help him out again. I started picking out the boxes all dusty and full of of junk wax cards for the most part. Picked out some non-sports sets, and a bunch of oddball baseball sets like 1985 Topps Boardwalk and Baseball Collector's edition "all time record holders". Really nice, some of you will find out soon. I also picked up a 1987 Limited edition Fleer award winners set. Again some will have some soon.

I picked up umm maybe 10,000 cards today too, oops I did it again, AGAIN! I know I said I wasn't going to do that again, but $30.00 for everything, plus he's coming over after the Holidays to bring me about 50 vintage Braves and a box full of Falcons for some of my Jeter cards. I can live with that too.

I did actually pick up some junk wax, but after setting aside everyones' hit list and mini's. I can't really call it junk anymore, at least not until I get rid of everything piled up on my living room floor. LOL.  A lot of it actually is already earmarked for traders.

With that said, I have been sending a lot of PWEs out to fellow traders/bloggers from my "boxes" and will continue to do so. But, forgive me if you get something that isn't actually a "hit" or in my norm. What I mean is that I still have stacks and PWEs lined up for those whom I trade with already, but I will be sending a lot of this stuff I got today to you also. Keep in mind I still only want in return what you feel fair. So please dig through whatever I send, you will find some GEMS.

One of the so called "junk boxes" was a 1989 Topps vending box 500 count. On the outside of the box was written commons and the box had a $5.00 sticker on it, under normal circumstance thats not too bad. Of course I only paid about $2.00 for it. But by no means would I call what was inside commons. It was all the super stars, and of  course commons. Nonetheless,  couldn't go wrong there for $2 ish.

Another $2.00 box was 1992 Donruss series I set. Let me just say if you have mini collections you should revisit that set, and some of you will find out soon what I am talking about.

Another $2.00 a piece for two complete sets of 1991 "Rockcards" with stickers included, pretty cool stuff if you like the Rock Bands from the 80s and 90s.

Another $2.00 for a box on 89 Fleer (no Jr, and no Ripken), but still not bad for $2.00.

All in all I say I picked up 8 more non sport sets from DC comic sets to American Gladiator sets at a buck each. I also picked a box of 2012 Score football $5.00, and a armful of  "boxed lots" at a buck each too. these were all kinds of cards, and good ones I might add like Topps Chrome and Finest, etc.....

This time I am not putting them into my sytem, just going to trade em away and put whats left in a trade box.

Until later............

The December breakdown

Okay folks,

I've finally worked my way through that box of wonderful goodies from TJ (the junior junkie). It pulled in 137 hits out of 143. Well done, many of the cards are sitting with the December favorites. There were some doubles too, but most hit my frankenset perfectly.

I did not expect to have 10 cards in all for the running of my favorite card, let alone the 16 I have so far, this is going to be a tough one come Dec. 31st.

Points a third of the way in are as follows:

Leading the way is Bo (baseball cards come to life) with 159 points.

TJ (the junior junkie) 137 points
(has cards in the running for fav)

Nick (dime boxes) 105 points
(has cards in the running for fav)

Jeff (one mans junk) 22 points
(has card in the running for fav)

Kyle Dworchak (nolans dugout) 19 points

Marcus (all the way to the back stop) 15 points
(has card in the running for fav)

I want to say THANKS again for the help with the Braves. Now I only need a gazillion more. LOL!

If you haven't traded with the bloggers above, you should do so. As well as Jeff (2 x3 heroes), and Dan (its like having my own card shop). All great traders and many have excellent blogs to follow too!

The mail lady was really good today

I'll be short and just summarize as I need to get to sleep.

First let me say thanks to following bloggers: Kyle, TJ, Bo, Yeo, and thanks to Tim at OCT, and to Mitch at sportlots, and thanks to a couple of Ebayers, and Beckett traders. Today was a good day for sure.

I opened Kyles first and got a sweet run of Pacific cards and a few oddball too, 19 hits out of 19 hits.

Then, Yeo 2 PWEs packed with Fleer plus a few Donruss 22 hits out 23

Next up was Bo, holy mackarel. Bo killed a few Topps Braves team sets. 159 hits in total out of 160

Last I opened up TJ box (over at junior junkie), I haven't even put the cards into my system yet, but he scattered Braves all over the place. It may take a day or two to sort. He sent almost as many cards as Bo,  of which 10 are definitely in the running for my favorite. I spent this evening browsing those cards. Wow, I am impressed with everything I got from everyone.

Only one set got duplicated and that was by a trader in my vintage trade group (OCT) who sent a surprise mailing of 3 complete team sets hit 92 tsc, 82 fleer and donruss. (he's not part of the contest so no harm there. LOL.

I will have to update my Braves wants soon, but keep em coming ( I added another binder that now makes 11 Braves binders in the works) A Frankenset of strictly Braves doubles, only once placed will not be removed.

Thanks again to all. Lets keep it going.

How cool would it be if

With the Hall of Fame announcement just 4 weeks away, I thought it fitting to give a shout out for my Braves nominees.

Yeah yeah, Maddux should be a 1st ballot shoe in, as should Glavine although the writers seem to be a bit iffy there on first ballot for him. I'd really like to comment about another Brave on the ballot again. The Crime dog, this will be the 5th year for Fred McGriff in the voting, and keeps coming up way short. He is Hall Worthy, so I am hoping that the Padres fans out there as well as the D-rays and Cubs, and the folks way north will do all that they can for the guy. Let the writers know how the FANS feel, he has yet to get 24% of the vote and dropped last year a tiny bit and he needs 75% to get elected. Wouldn't it be cool if all 3 were voted in for 2014? Only once before has 2 team-mates been elected in the same year, so this could be a first for baseball! Coast to Coast everybody liked and likes Fred McGriff.

McGriff was loved and respected by the fans of all six teams that he played for, both leagues ten years each. Sure he was short 7 homers of hitting the infamous landmark 500, but look at everything else he did, and does (speaking of his off field works). Ten years of 30+ dingers, please..... Over 1500 RBIs. The  man averaged better than 1 hit per game. He played in 2460 games and and had 2490 hits. The Braves would not have won their only World Series if not for McGriff contributions, hell they wouldn't have made most of those post-seasons either, and let's face it the Braves were Americas team in the mid 90s *I had to throw that in there, hehe), and yes Maddux and Glavine was there with their amazing pitching, I know. But they will get in, McGriff needs our help.
1.5 years before he retired he pounded out 30 home runs for the Cubbies at age 38, with 103 RBIs that year. He is Hall Worthy!! Lets help get him in.

HMMM, What if Smoltz had retired just 1 year earlier, LOL.  Now that would be something....4.

A little help please..... I have a Problem

Okay,

I just traded away my Personal Collection John Elway Rookie card, MINT, MINT, MINT. I have others but not MINT. I shouldn't have done it, but I did. Now I do have a NM (7  or 7.5). Keep in my mind I only collect RAW cards, nothing graded. I am always getting offers for the RC, so I am sure in time I will find another MINT copy, in time. My problem...... I still have 4 unopened packs of 1984 Topps football.

My question to all is,  do I open them and hope for a non gum stained MINT Elway (or Marino), or NOT and wait until a trade comes along?

If I do open them, does anyone want to claim a team for the 4 pack bust?  No return needed, but always appreciated for sure. Email me your opinions at jfmjr1@aol.com

WOWSER!

I only got one package in today's mail, but it was a doozie. The package came from Nick over at "dime boxes". Talk about some return fire. Let's just say Nick is the current points leader for my contest.

Nick sends a huge stack of Braves cards, 119 of which he scored 105 points on. THANK YOU!!!!
INSIDE THE PACKAGE:::: There were 16 hits for binders 1 & 2, that was sweet, and 4 more for binder 3.
Nick even sent some of what could be binder hits of his own like pitchers at the plate or on the base paths and plays at the plate. He even put some plays at or rather on the wall. He threw in some of knucksie (Phil Niekro) too!

Forty one (41) of the cards in the package were either oddballs, inserts, or parallels (2 of which are in the running for my December favorite a Topps Orange parallel and an Emerald). Packed full of minis also. Nick had another card in the running for the favorite card too. A nice Upper Deck card of Turner Field,  with a statue of Hammerin Hank front and center of the card, really nice.

I definitely loved getting those oddball and minis, 3 of which were 1975 original minis. It took 3 hours to look at them and log them into my systems, and then another hour to put them into their rightful homes.

I literally need thousands and thousands of Braves and Elways each. So, hopefully I get to do this again tomorrow with another package that I am expecting in.

Thanks again Nick!

First to Score

Just a short post to say that Marcus is first to score points for the December contest. He sent a bubble mailer with 15 solid hits for my binders.(3 of which were for binder #1 and 2 for binder #2).

One of the cards marcus sent will be in the running for the card I like the best. A 2013 Pinnacle Kimbrel.... First card from this set for me which is why I chose that one from the cards he sent over which included some 2012 Topps Chrome, of who was that, oh yeah,  Simmons and Freeman (but those guys were trips for me). Still a very nice start. Thanks Marcus.

The December "contest"

Yesterday I hinted about running a contest for this month. So here is the scoop!

With the recent rash of "new to me"  blogger traders, I feel like I need to do something special for blessing me with so many as I see gifts in our never ending quest for cardboard. So I've thought on what would be the prize, and I came up with not 1 but 5 items that I'd like to award people. Then, I obviously had to re-think the how or who would win them. I am going to make it as simple as can be.

#1 The TOP Prize will be for the trader who sends the most Braves or Elway hits. Simply put for each card that comes in in December 2013 that I can take off of my need list gets 1 point per hit, the collector with the most points come 1/1/14 gets..... (Drum Roll)

TWO complete intact 1977 "Pepsi Gloves"  unpunched disc complete with tab. Mike Hargrove Texas Rangers and Butch Wynegar Minnesota Twins

#2 The next prize will be based on the hardest/toughest/rarest hit Brave or Elway card I get in December.

1983 Oversized (postcard size) Donruss card #23 Nolan Ryan

# 3 This one will be based on the card that I like the best or believe is the coolest. Simple enough

and the winner gets..... (from the same oversized 1983 Donruss set) cards #24 Steve Carlton & #1 Eddie Murray.

I know that there are those traders especially in the vintage groups, to which I am a member would love for me to trade them the "gloves" as they are mainly set builders, but these and the 83 D cards are not for them, not today not this time. These prizes are the blogasphere period.

Send me them cards! Lets swap some board!

Lets talk about an OCD nightmare

The title says it all, but more on that in a minute. First I'd like to send some much deserved thanks out to some "trading bloggers"

Recently, I contacted a few bloggers about allowing me to send them some cards of "their team" or "want lists". A few replied back and out went some stuffed PWEs. I got the first return package in this week and man o man was it a doozie. All Atlanta Braves inserts or parallels, wow! I was only expecting some base cards back, I'm not too picky on the return as I am wanting every Braves card sticker, whatever ever made. Yes, I do try to keep track of what I have and need (reference: the title of this post) for the most part as this post will lead too eventually. The blogger who sent the Amazing Braves was Daniel Wilson of the blog "it's like having my own card shop". I can't thank him enough. I hope that he enjoys the 2nd PWE that left out this week with his D-Backs, and I went ahead and made up a couple more to send out in December too.

I'd also like to thank bloggers Jedi Jeff from 2x3 heroes and founder of the PWE club of which I am a proud member! Likewise, I'd like to thank Nick from Dimebox. These two guys have helped me come along, pushing and recommending my blog. Granted I have a long way to go when it comes to this blog. But, I definately appreciate teh kudos those 2 send out.

I still anxiously await Jedi Jeff and his computer skills to magically make scans show up as I would like them to, so that I may post some awesome cards that I truly would love to write about. And to figure out how to link my trading site. I had better wake up now, and get to the point of this post. Some card scans would be GREAT right HERE.

I should probably restate the title of this post to NIGHTMARES!
As mentioned earlier, I have been trading for Braves cardboard, besides the John Elway "SUPER COLLECTION" which is my main priority, #3 T206 cards, and #4 Wacky Packages.

I was only able to add 17 unique cards to the Elway collection this month, even though I tried to FOCUS on it. I wound up increasing the number of BRAVES binders instead.  A short list of the binders here: LOL.

#1 First year card in Atlanta uniform
I still need 68 cards total, 34 of which I have no card at all and the other 34 I at least have a second year card. Organized by year.

#2 Same as above but Organized alphabetically.
Still need 210 for this "2nd Set" obviously I need the above 68 x2, leaving only an additional 142 cards.

#3 Every Topps flagship Braves card.
Organized by year, and list is current, sort of.

#4 Every Donruss Brand card.
Organized by year.

#5 Every Fleer Brand card

#6 Every Score Brand card

#7 Every Pacific Brand card

#8 Every Upper Deck Brqnd card

#9 Every Bowman Brand card

and lastly

#10 Every inserts/parallel and oddball

Now you can see where the OCD nightmareS are coming from. I am wondering why I did this (head held down). Anyways.........
recently I have been reading other blogs and noticed several of us deal with this issue, especially when it comes to our cardboard.

Why do we do this to ourselves? Doesn't matter, I wouldn't have it any other way, LOL.  I think I will say that again LOL!

To close out I will share the trade numbers for the month of November.
Total trades = 40
17 Elways, 2 covers, an oddball. A boat load of Braves!

(hint) I believe I may run some kind of contest (hint) for December trades with some "sic" prizes for the top 3 trades.

Later.......................

A funny thing that happened today at the Flea Market

Yes, I did go back to the same flea market yet again today. I was hoping that same vendor (Rob) would bring that "other binder" he had told me about. In short he didn't, but we talked some more baseball, once again I enjoyed it. Wound up buying a couple of DVDs no cards there today at his table. So I figured while I was there I would hit the aisles that I couldn't last weekend  (my hands were full),  Well, just a few tables down the same row, another table with misc "stuff", and 1 binder full of vintage. Nope, didn't get this one, as the guy had everything priced at NM bv, and was asking for 50% of what was marked. The cards were in EX (not NM) condition, but I am NOT going to spend that kind of money of some cardboard, at least not for those he had, albeit some were nice, and would have liked to have them, but I will trade for them eventually, I hope.

Went down the next aisle, nothing there, and then on to the next and wowser! BINGO BINGO BINGO! did I say BINGO!?  Yes I did. I spent about 30 minutes at this table, making deals the whole time card by card. In short, A Mantle Autographed card from that set back in the early 80s, and it was NM. Perfect sig too, yep, I grabbed it along with some other nice deals, but the Mantle was the doozie. Now, keep in mind I only collect John Elway, Braves, Wacky Packages, and T206 cards. But I figured what trade bait that auto is going to make. The guy swore he even had a T206 there, but we searched didn't find it, needless to say, I'll be back to see Gilbert again!

I suppose everyone is wondering what I dropped for the Mantle, I'm not saying yet but whatever you're thinking cut it in half, and then halve that too, trust me. It was a steal rather than a deal, and genuine too. Now this brings to me to the funny thing that happened at the flea market today. You see I no longer have that Mantle, it never seen my truck. There was only 1 aisle left on the one side that I had previously skipped for reasons already mentioned. Low behold, I see cards about mid way down the aisle. I rush over to it, and it the second I've seen in my now 2 trips that was only sports cards and collectibles. My eyes are lighting up, then the vendor pops out in the aisle, turns out I know him and have for nearly 20 years. I used work with "BOB" for a long time and knew he dealt cards at the flea markets for what now must be 30 years, but had lost track of BOB a long time ago. He had fallen ill (ticker I think), and thus I figured he was out the biz if not out of the picture altogether, if you know what I mean. (I hadn't been to the flea market in about that long).

I must of spent 3 hours with Bob, I didn't buy a thing from him. You see I don't have to buy anything from BOB, if he has something I want, he tells me to take it. That's the way it used to be, and he didn't really forget or change a thing. In fact because I have moved since we last seen each other (about ten years ago), he is coming over Wednesday night to take all those basketball cards off my hands, and some vintage hot wheels/matchbox, stuff in general. Yes, we are trading! He had some 77-80 sets of Star Wars, and some other odd ball collectibles I wanted. I offered them up. Now of course, by now you have figured he got the Mantle, and yes I let him have it, now of course I left his table with a few Personal Collection cards too.

Like a 1965 Hank Aaron in EX+ condition ($75), a NM Neikro/Carroll RC ($50), a Chipper RC (the $10.00 one ), a 1975 Aaron ( a bit faded, but okay), 1978 Murphy EX,  and 5 Elway cards in NM, turns out I did actually already have one of the Elways an $8.00 one, but hey I can always trade it or put it with the other 800 Elway dupes. One of the Elways was a $24 card , 2 others were $12.00. I also left his booth with a 2004 MINT Braves year book, and a 9 pocket page of red bordered Action Packed  HOFer baseball cards ( for a fellow trader), and some odd and ends. I think I got $60.00 worth, what do you think?  I haven't even mentioned the other cards from the BINGO table, not much just some nice PC adds there too for Braves.

As I was heading out, but still talking with BOB, someone comes up behind me and starts hugging me tight from the rear, I turn to see who it is and it was a client of mine, that I had just seen last week, Friday actually. His name is also BOB, and he had two friends with him, and introduced them to me and I will be seeing one of them in a week or two. How about that, go to the flea market to get baseball cards and I gain a business client, and yes that Mantle steal was awesome, but seeings that I don't have anymore I will just have to take solace in the fact that I ran into an old friend/card hook up, gained a client (thats what pays for the cards lol), and have a handful of PC hits.

I love this hobby!

Thanks again to Nick, for the push to check out the local flea markets!

Oh BOY part TWO (the other stuff)

Just an update about the rest of the cards from the flea market haul! Wow, some really great stuff. And all available for those who may be interested. I really only wanted the fore mentioned Braves, using the rest to trade with.

I've never been one to collect the Sportflics cards, at least not the ones from the 80s. I did pop a few boxes of the 1995s and 1996, be it most but not all of those have been traded away by now.

In this most recent lucky find. I managed to get parts of  what looks like 2 sets of the Sportflics :

1986 triple action: 2 don mattingly, 10, 11,12, 16, 21 kirk gibson x3, 25 seavor, 26, 31,37 reggie jackson, 43 nolan ryan, 48, 53 neikro/reuss/witt, 57 cal ripken/baylor/reggie jackson, 58 parker/madlock/rose, 59 x2, 70 sutsliffe/carlton/seavor, 73 lynn/murray/ripken, 83, 84, 85, 86, 90, 97 strawberry, 98, 99, 102, 106 carew, 108, 110 dawson, 111 x2, 112 x2, 114, 117 morris, 119, 123, 127 raines/sandberg/hernandez x2, 128 molitor/ripken/wilson x2, 134 sutcliffe/seavor/denny, 138 perez/staub/rose, 143 nolan ryan/valenzuela/gooden, 144 x2, 149, 151 x2, 156 franco 2nd yr card, 161 mcdowell rc, 163 phil neikro, 166, 167, 169, 171, 172, 176 (6 players w/ mattingly and for a couple of you guys has a play at the plate w coleman, 177 (6 rc players), 178 6 future stars w canseco, tartabull and greenwell, 180 boggs/carew/mattingly/brett/cooper/wilson, 181 gwynn/madlock/guerrero/parker/rose/hernandez, 182 carew/neikro/rose/ryan/tallman, 192, and 193.

The other two sets 1 red set  and 1 blue set, are copyrighted 1986 also, but actually have the 1986 stats so I guess they are the 1987 set red being the National Leaguers, and blue for the American. Not many of these total for the short list is here:

red set: 13, 29,36, 58,72, 104, 115 schmidt/brown/wallach, and 120 scott/valenzuela/gooden.
blue set: 1 mattingly, 4 henderson, 7 puckett, 9 ripken, 10 clemens, 15, 89, 96, 101, 106, 114 boggs/brett/gaetti, 118 6 rookies, 143, 161, and 194.

I've heard horror stories about these type cards cracking and such, but these are NM.

I did get nearly a complete set of the 1989 Score  with all the key cards including the Randy Johnson RC.
Keeping with the Score line there were partial sets (no more than 25%) of 1988 through 1998 again the super stars are in there.

A similar run of Donruss accept that run was from 1982 to 1992, with the super stars in there too!
The Fleer run was pretty cool and went from 1981 through 1992 with  several STAR inserts from 86, 88, and 89.

A handful of 1989 Upper deck , Ecks, parker, and Canseco were the highlights of those cards.

A partial set of 1985 Topps with lots of the dupes of cards 700 through 720 (they are all stars so I didn't mind).
Another handful of 1989 super stars only ryan/ rose, mattingly, johnson, bonds, clemens, schmidt, henderson, brett, mcgwire , most have 5 cards each.

There were many 1992 & 1993 Topps, and a handful of the 1993 topps Gold, no biggies there.
Now the 1986 Topps had players like seavor, ryan, ripken, brett, and gwynn, very nice all NM too!

And low and behold another handful of 1973 Topps not in good shape overall, but I did manage to score some 1976 Topps  stars in EX+  many cards had a dinged corner or two, and several others had creases.

There were a few 1974 & 75 cards.

Oddball sets or partial sets of the 1983 & 1986 Topps commemorative All Stars
Also 5 1986 minis including Gwynn the only card in very good shape other than the checklist.
Not many of the 1984 & 1987 Topps, but what is there are super stars.

About 20 other sets that just had a few cards each, mainly stars but not all.

And two really odd ball cards. 1991 Hall of Fame Olympic Cards of Mary Lou Retton and Eddie Eagan (boxing).

3 8x10 team issued photos of some Buffalo Bills looks like from the 70's . And 1 very interesting  Fran Tarkenton (Vikings) page from some magazine, on the reverse is a cartoon where the center has "I love You" written on his butt, and the QB wearing #10 is pulling what appears to be toilet paper from the top of the center pants???????????? Interesting anyways.

Plus 2 Topps sticker albums with some stickers insde from 1982 & 1983. and several Ted Williams set cards.

Throw in the vintage and oversized cards from part one of this post, and I think I got my $35.00 dollars worth!

I hope to share my good fortune with my fellow traders. My need are simple, lol.

I want JOHN Elway!, and Any Braves cards I can get especially TOPPS (2 each) base cards.
And just to throw in out there any T206 in poor- fair condition greatly appreciated.

Email me if you want some of this stuff.

Oh BOY! I did a bad thing today.....

Not really. I did make my way to one of the local flea markets today, and get this I was out of there in 1 hour. But an extremely good hour it was.

After reading a fellow bloggers' rants or should I say RAVES about his flea market finds in several of his posts this summer, I decided to quit procrastinating and just go dig through some boxes myself. At least that was my intention. Didn't find any to look through, but what I did find were two tables with some cards. (I only went though 3/4 of the market).

At the first table of all kinds of misc. stuff I see some sports cards thrown all around. They were in horrible condition, and yep they were all crap cards too, you know the ones. There were some misc baseball items too, but none worthy of a dig. I ask the man how much for all of this sports stuff? He replied $50.00, I laughed and told to have a nice day, he immediately dropped down to $30.00. I again told him no thank you and he asked what I was thinking, and I said maybe $5.00 but that would be pushing it, he laughed. He then proceeded to tell me he has over 1 million cards (not there of course), but he did have some in his truck, and pulled out a storage box of pretty much all Yankees, with one exception...... a box of 100 unopened packs (6 stickers each) of 1997-98 Upper Deck Basketball stickers with Jordan on the wrapper or package and the box too. I asked how much for that? he said $5.00, done. I have them, I don't collect basketball although I do have several thousand for trade. But couldn't pass that up.

Onward I go, not much in my hand but the one small box which was actually in a bag. I stumble on another table where an older gentleman was sitting with all kinds of flea market stuff, and right in front of him were 6 binders all open of sports cards. He was actually going through what looked to be a 20 year old price guide. I had noticed that the binder in front of him had 1985 Topps baseball, so I looked at him and said what card are you pricing, he pointed to a Pete Rose Record Breaker card, and thus started what turned into a 30 minute conversation on baseball memories. I quite enjoyed that. His memories of catching a Mantle foul ball, then a few innings later at the games' end asking him to sign it, and he of course said no.... funny thing though Whitey Ford was behind Mantle and said "I can sign it for you", he did and went on to get Yogi Berra to sign it and another Yankee too!  Now that's a memory.

I glanced quickly through the binders, 1 was full of vintage, which I wanted. The others were near sets with pretty much all the key cards, but 1 89 set didn't have the Griffey. Of course I didn't know what all was actually there until I got home and spent 6 hours pulling the cards out of the binders. They were not in any type of order, or even by sets. Whoever "binded" them put the cards according to player. At let me tell there were a lot of super stars. I will provide details later in this blog. Obviously, we negotiated a price and I now have all 6 binders and a 800 count box too.

Before I spill what I paid I want to let you know what I got. My hands were now full so I headed back to my truck to get home so I could go through what I just bought, and here is what was in there......

I'll start out with the light stuff.
I got 3 Elway cards including his 1985 among 50ish football cards several were from the 70s. Nice.
I got about 2 dozen basketball and 4 of them were from the 74-75 Toppss all in EX-NM condition.
Even some vintage Hockey from the 70s about 6 in all.
I got about 50 or so Braves whereas 4 were 1957 Braves and 1 1960 and some 70s including Neikro. Nice again! This is why I bought the cards to begin with.
I got a factory sealed Upper Deck HOF first edition stamp 12 (card size) set! I so want to open it but I dare not. The player checklist on the back contains: Ty Cobb, Dizzy Dean, Bob Feller, Whitey Ford, Lou Gehrig, Rogers Hornsby, Mel Ott, Satchel Paige, Babe Ruth, Casey Stengel, Honus Wagner, and Cy Young. Apparently these stamps are official legal postage stamps as the box states if you are mailing from St Vincent or the Grenadines. Still very NICE!
I got 2 sealed 1996 Flick Ball sets: Dallas Cowboys * Minnesota Vikings.
I got 4 1983 Donruss oversized (post card) cards of Nolan Ryan, Yaz, Steve Carlton, and Eddie Murray.
I got several 8x10s.
I got about 3000 baseball cards which I have almost sorted into sets, I will then need to put them order and such. But to sum those up there are many Ryans, Rose, Ripkens, Schmidts, and the like. Even some Griffey Jr, Bonds, all the super stars are in the lot for sure.

Now on to more specifics, like the VINTAGE BASEBALL CARDS.There are 65 1957 Topps, 15 1959 Topps, 25 1960 Topps, and 13 1976 Topps. All of these cards have been sorted and looked up! Wait to you see who was in there!

I will start with the 1976 Topps: All EX/MT-NM
1 Brett/ Madlock, 3 May/ Foster, 8 Campbell/Eastwick, 70 Johnny Bench, 200, 216, 234 Nolan Ryan, 265 Mark Fidrych RC, 387, 504, 510, 600 Jim Palmer, and 635 Yount.

Do you think I got $35.00 worth of cards yet???????????  Just wait.

How about now?? The cardboard angels were shining on me today!!!!

Plus a few cubbies I set aside for someone they were all pr-fr.

Now to think I spent just 1 hour at the market 30 minutes of it listening to someone share their baseball memories. Which I will say again I enjoyed very much. BTW some of the 70's cards I didn't list or talk about had stars too like Billy Martin. I only mention him as the guy tried to find his card while I was at his table, he couldn't. I found two!
I will eventually get these cards added to my trading website and into my org at Beckett (ID jfmjr1)

Until later.

Hello November 2013

Well October came and it went, a fitting end on a day BOO comes into play, more of a boo-hoo for me. Slow start and slow finish for trading. I did manage to close on 63 deals, again most of which were for my 2 Atlanta Braves Collections. Which I now only need 147 unique Atlanta Braves uniformed players out of the 617 that I have listed. Remember now that I am attempting the earliest possible card (preferably Topps when that is the case) for 2 sets. One for me the other is a Christmas present for my brother. I really thought that this project would be completed by now. Go figure some cards are hard to get, especially via trade.  That is however what keeps us engaged and excited. No doubt I will be utterly satisfied to obtain the 2 1966 Hank Aaron cards that have thus eluded my trade grasp. I can't wait to binder those 2 cards!

Added 2 T206 cards to that special binder, haven't done that in quite some time. Both are Piedmont 150 backs in poor condition ( I ACTUALLY LIKE THE "LESSER CONDITIONED") but complete: LOBERT CINCY & GANLEY WASHINGTON.  The Lobert card front is majorly creased but the back is fantastic, while the Ganley card front is superb (EX) the back has some paper loss. Both cards have rounded corners, and I was very pleased to get them both. That has to be the toughest set in the world to get, duh!

My SUPER ELWAY COLLECTION will be back to main focus for the remainder of the year, as I am way off target for hitting the 1500 unique by years end. I am sitting at 1329, with apx 900 dupes(nearly 500 unique), 21 figures, 34 magazine covers (2 vintage dupes), 16 collector plates, and 33 oddball/other items. I must mention again, that I was able to trade for my first to Elway Autographs that are not listed above even though 1 is on a card, the other in a book.

If you run across any Elway I only need like 3,400 cards, LOL. . . . . I always have cards for your PC......

LETS TRADE!!

The "Special Project" update

It has been a crazy 6-7 weeks since I started the Atlanta Braves mini collection. For those who didn't catch that post: I was attempting to get 2 (two) of the earliest card produced (preferably Topps base) of every player wearing an Atlanta Braves uniform, but the earliest card I can get is just fine for set 2. Believe it or not, I am near completion, with less than 100 to go, maybe even less than 50. I haven't did an actual count yet. That's over 1200 cards thanks to all the Bowman Draft and prospect sets of players that may not even get to the majors.

I really wish the card companies would only produce cards for the players that actually played games in the Bigs during the previous season, not sure how everyone else feels about that but that's how I feel.

Anyways, this month so far I've made 44 trades most of which were for the Braves including several 100+ different Braves trades, which has landed me with multiple dupes!!!!!Or should I say Trips + as I am putting together 2 binders. It has been rather easy but busy and time consuming. The main set (a lot of Rookies) is year by year and the binder for my brother is alphabetical. I am quite confident that both sets will be complete by Thanksgiving as was hoped, or shortly thereafter. The 1966 Aaron ...  still in need of two of those, one can be any lesser condition the other needs to be in GOOD to VG.

I was able to add a few cards to the Gator binder, and 39 to the Super Elway collection (my main PC) including some really nice short prints. I even added 8 vintage Wacky packages to my collection.

When I started building my brothers Braves set I winded up adding the Atlanta Hawks and Falcons just so I could make a trade happen. I do like helping other traders out, sometimes you just gotta go with it.

Anyways, My Elway Collection is now at 1314 unique cards. The magazine covers are at 34 (Beckett and SI completed but for 1).  I hope to finish October with a push for 1400 on Elway.

I needed this sort of slow trade month as the last two months were nearly overwhelming with the large volumes that I had got. Definately prefer this, still have piles but that is what we do.

Enjoy, Lets swap some cardboard.

A slow but very good week

This week didn't bring many packages to my doorstep, but all and all I can not complain.

I added another 1986 Dairy Pak cut out to my Elway collection, that's 2 now the dark blue and now a red one, several more colors to go (the rainbow chase started along time go, lol). These cards came from the 1/2 gallon milk cartons, and the colors varied by locale.

Speaking of rainbow, the next card reminds of just that: 1995 Zenith Z-team Elway that I've wanted for along time. Beautiful card. I really need to figure out how to add pictures to this blog, maybe I should ask JediJeff for little help. Normally I have no problem adding pictures to things, put this post only seems to want to upload from either my phone or g-mail, again I will eventually get that figured out.

I was very surprised even though I knew I traded for this next card, a 2008 Elway of course, Donruss Classics Platinum Timeless Treasures serial # to just 25 (23/25). In a way its ugly, but I like it not because of the low serial number, but because the photo on front and back is black & white, gives this otherwise bad design card some character. Again, I wish I could post a pic. Jeff, help!

The last Elway this week is a special one, again a very low serial numbered card in fact another 7/10 card Elways' jersey number, sweet. 2012 Panini National Treasures Century Legends, awesome card!!! It too has a black & white photo on front, but the card is just nice, simple but awesome at the same time. Great job with this design.

The highlight came from the last two packages (1 package, 1 envelope) that I got yesterday, one of which I had no idea was coming, love those! 4 cards for my Gators in the NFL collection, yippee. They were vintage too! (3 1974 Topps including a John James Atlanta Falcon,  and 1 card from 1979). Lit my day up, and it just got better with the last package 17 of the Topps 1st year cards for my Atlanta Braves collection. I knew these were coming, but man it was fun to go through those vintage cards and put them into their reserved spot in the binder. 3 from 1966 Woodward, O'Dell, and team card, 3 from 1967 Jarvis, Nicholson, and Schwall, 5 from 1968 Johnson, T. Aaron, Boyer, Francona, and team card, 6 from 1969 Causey, Pappas, Britton, Reed, Garrido/House, and Didier/Hrniak/Neibauer. Not to mention the Timeless Treasures Elway was in this package along with another Elway I didn't talk about.

Now I had earlier in the week got a package of 17 different covering 12 years, Dale Earnhardt Jr cards, all very cool. Now I am not into racing, and these cards were just to make a trade happen (along with with 14 Braves from the 80's) to a trader who wanted two very short printed Don Mattingly cards for his super collection. I compromised to get it done, and I am glad I did! You see, I have a "niece" that absolutely has a crush on Jr, and I am going to look like a hero when I give her those cards in 2 weeks. I now owe that trader a bump.

Slow month starting out, but already very happy. Let's trade!

Most of my cards available for trade are listed on Beckett ( ID jfmjr1966), many are listed on my site, and thousands more sitting in boxes, and in piles. LOL. If you want to trade just send me an e-mail.

Most of my basketball is not listed yet, but there are a couple thousand there including 18 Michael Jordans (remember the huge package I got in last month) Yeah I'm smiling..
